    Hello!
My beautiful 14 year old Storm was diagnosed in February, we've been feed the Purina DM (wet and dry) as per vet recommendations but I've recently learned that's not the best! I'd love to switch her completely to wet food, but I'm getting overwhelmed looked at the charts and don't know which to pick.

Can anyone recommend some foods to try? For reference she is about 5.5lbs, she likes chunkier foods over pates and we live in Canada (ontario).

I currently feed her every 12 hours, she gets about a teaspoon of wet and a 1/4 cup dry. She is currently getting 4 units of Lantus every 12 hours. Unfortunately, I don't have recent numbers for her as I track on paper and have been giving them to the vet. However, I know that she has not been below 13.5 mmol/L (sorry I don't know how to convert) in the last 3 months, and usually she sits between 15.5 and 23.5.

What a gorgeous kitteh! I don't know brands of canned food in Canada. We feed Fancy Feast classics, some are chunky, and also Friskies pates. I also cook chicken breast, dice it up, mix with pate or offer as snacks. Diet makes a difference, Idjit went OTJ very quickly.

Thank you! I grabbed a few of the fancy feast to try, unfortunately the store I went to didn't have a whole lot of selection.

And forgive me, but what does OTJ stand for?

No forgiveness needed! OTJ stands for "Off the Juice", which is another way to say your kitty went off the insulin and is in (diet-controlled) remission. I use quite a few different kinds of wet food because my buddy Lou is picky when it comes to wet. His absolute favorite is Fancy Feast pates and flaked/chunky, but I also have fed Friskies, Sheba, and B.F.F. It's just a learning curve. I kind of picked the cheapest ones that met the carb guidelines and went from there. He got sick of some and hated others... It's a process. I generally buy my food in variety packs from Amazon or Chewy (even Walmart, although I think you don't have them in Canada). I tend to get better deals online. Hopefully some of our Canadian members will be by soon to give you their thoughts. :cat:

Cleo eats Fancy Feast classic pates. She likes chicken (pink label) and liver and chicken (brown label). Cleo is allergic to turkey and Paddy, my civvie, is allergic to duck and shellfish, so our choices are slightly limited because of that.

Hello I can say that feeding is a learning curve. My Alex was yuk to can food. He won't touch the vet's can foods. I have learned to stay away over the counter foods with gravy. I get cans with sauce only. I normally end up with 2-3 cans open at one time. I found out that Alex likes the Friskies flaked Tuna and the one Tuna and egg. He won't touch pate anything or Fancy feast. So yep I have been in your shoes. Alex has been diabetic since December. I also have learned to try and feed more can then dry. I use Hills M/D.
