So we think Angel has a UTI again. We are taking her to the vet after work. My question is, she was on clavomox for 10 days. Was that enough time? What have you guys used for your kitties with UTIs and for how long was the treatment ?

Sometimes the antibiotic isn't quite the right one for the bacteria in the bladder. That's why a urine culture is done - see what bugs grow and choose the antibiotic accordingly. Did she have that done?

Some people give the d-mannose supplement (related to something in cranberries) to ward off UTIs and, of course, extra water in all wet food meals can help.

Have a look online or try a human health food store. You can post here asking about the dose. The urine culture would be an extra expense so maybe wait on that?

Hi Cherish, long time. No advice on the antibiotics but in one of the insulin specific forums there was a thread about members using either bottled/filtered water and/or a cat water fountain and/or a pretty basic supplement that ended their UTI problems forever. I know it's frustrating, Marco and Andy go through this on an annual basis.
I often wonder about the water we get from our taps, stinks like bleach but is actually too much chlorine. Our water bowls sit on the floor where all the crap in the house settles, disgusting.
I'll try and find that thread, I might have bookmarked it. Won't help now but maybe in the future. Does anyone else remember this thread?

It was on the Lantus forum...it was someone that moved recently...

@Stacy & Asia Stacy has done some work on the UTI front and is the one that turned me onto the D-mannose for Jones.

Not all UTI's respond to Clavamox. Also, sometimes longer than a 10 day course is required.
For a different antibiotic I would recommend either Baytril or Zeniquin.

It was me. And it wasn't in reference to ending a urinary tract infection it was her blood glucose was so high and seem to drop when I changed the water to either spring water or filtered which I now have. If you look online which is how I found out that there's this film that gets on their bowls even on kibble bowls if you feed kibble. I change my cat's water several times a day and I wash their bowls and give them a new bowl every morning. Glass bowls only no plastic. As far as UTIs, I just know that high carb food is a main source of causing that

Thanks Karen, I couldn't remember what the issue was with the tap water, just that you were switching to filtered for a reason.:)

Matter of fact, it is called biofilm it is a bacteria and it's worth reading about just Google biofilm and there's a lot of information and that could be causing a UTI

My cat allie used to get uti every year. She hasnt had one in three years. We bought two Fountains which filter the water in addition to the water bowl. The extra water around has helped.

If the antibiotics haven't worked ask for a culture and sensitivity test. It will show which antibiotics will work.

Thank you for the info but my cat does not have a UTI. He was sneezing and the vet said probably do to the stress of the anal sack rupture, he has an upper respiratory infection. Personally, I feel it is a reaction to the Covina shot which I told them not to give him and they did anyway. Because this happened last time he had the shot. All symptoms have seem to subside now

Hi Cherish - I'm a little late to this convo, but 10 days seems really short. Most times my kitties had UTIs they were on antibiotics for at least two weeks. And my current vet prefers three weeks for sugar kitties, just as a precaution.

My vet knows Andy cheeks his pills like a psych ward patient so he always leaves the clinic with a shot. Anyone else get this?
And yes, after 40 years of pilling cats he is the most unbelievable squirmer I've ever seen. I still find Clavamox in the corners of the basement.
