Mo finished a course of antibiotics 5 days ago and since then his BG levels have gone right back up to where we started. Vet gave them because he has pancreatitis. He also has Famotidine each am.

I had got him down from 1.5u twice a day to 0.5u and he was a different cat - more alert, chasing stuff, out in the garden all day.

This past 2 days he's become lethargic again. BG levels up in the 300 (19/20) range again.

He was ravenous this past few weeks having two sachets of food am and pm, crying for more in between and trying to steal more. Now he's struggling to finish 1.5 sachets and not interested in much else.

Can anyone tell me if antibiotics would have affected the BG levels? I feel we're right back where we were almost a month ago!

Numbers fluctuate. My cat averaged 200 for preshots two weeks ago and this week is over 300. It comes in phases. Take the Numbers as they come.

If giving liquid meds, make sure that the pharmacist isn't using any syrups or sugars in the suspension.

Infection will cause the BG to rise. If he has an infection and the antibiotics didn’t work, his BG would go up. He may need another round of ab or a different drug. Pain will also raise BG.

Does it seem like a pancratitis flare? That would raise numbers.

I can’t tell if it’s the pancreatitis - he’s always been an outdoors cat, and with the better weather he’s heading out a lot. We think we’ve found him having been sick in the garden, but can’t be 100% sure it’s him.

He was better yesterday on the 0.75 dose, but again this am he’s way high.

He’s not drinking excessively, or weeing lots either overnight... but no idea when he’s out.

He does come back for a BG test and a treat at the right times though, without me having to go call on him!!!

    Vet on Monday evg....
