Hey all! Effy's been less hungry lately and vomited twice yesterday so I went out and bought some ketone strips today. I caught him mid pee and tested, looks to be in the small to moderate colors.... What do I do from here? Vet's closed and he hasn't been vomiting today. He's been eating but not as much as usual, he's polished off every bowl of food today but way slower than he usually does. He's just been more sleepy than usual. I searched ketones on here but nothing came up for me so forgive me if theres some sort of sticky i'm missing for this. Figured I'd run on here and ask real quick! I'll call vets in the AM and get him in!

We went to our ER vet last time he had these symptoms but he was 10x worse that time, but they didn't check his ketones until 3 hours after when I finally went up and asked them what the result was, they completely ignored me and had him back there for 3 hours, cost me almost a grand and he only had trace amounts by the time I got to see him. This time he's way less symptomatic and I don't have the funds for them to just give him iv liquids and call it a day. I'm gunna try and hold out til our regular vet is open in the morning. For now i'm just pushing fluids at home and keeping him by me! If worse comes to worse, the ER vet is not even 7 minutes down the road from my house, so atleast I can get there fast if need be!

Get as much liquid into him as you can. Offer him anything he'll eat. Test for ketones at least once more before you call your vet in the AM. I'd also bump him up a half unit to 4 u tomorrow AM. He's been in high numbers too long.

Ok if you're going to wait just get lots of liquids in. Maybe tuna water.

Great news! I see you dropped his dose drastically in an attempt to restart him on SLGS. I recommend you post on the Lantus forum for advice from the very experienced people there. I worry about the appearance of ketones yesterday after he was on this much lower dose for a few cycles prior.
