I sent Mouse's spreadsheet to my vet for the first time and spoke to her on the phone today. She said if his PS is in yellow (below 270/15) then I must give him HALF his usual dose of insulin. She repeated it a few times and was very directive!

I had to bite my tongue cos I like to feel I am in control here! :stop:

Any thoughts on her 'advice' (which was more of an order)? She has no experience of ProZinc at all, has never used it before (am in UK).

Oh vets.... Bless their hearts, but most of them really don't know much about FD, and get nervous when clients are making potentially dangerous decisions without them. But these decisions aren't dangerous when they are based on data and a large body of evidence about how the insulin works in cats.

You're doing just fine, and I really hope you will continue to ignore your vet's advice on this! :bookworm: Lowering the dose on anything below 270/15 would guarantee that Mouse stays in high numbers. Definitely not what you want!

Your vet would have a heart attack if she saw my spreadsheet ;)

I’d ignore that. How will you ever get him in nice, healing numbers if you reduce every time he approaches them?

Thanks Djamila and Rachel. Wishing I hadnt showed the vet my SS, cos she said to send it to her again in two weeks, so I feel like I am being watched now and if I dont do what she says she will be angry. As if I need more anxiety and confusion!

Vets leave themselves open to all kinds of nastiness doing "business" without having your cat directly in their care. This is the world lawyers have created. Once your vet trusts your decision making skills that should change.
You should have seen the forms we had to fill out letting pet sitters into our home for a week. Lots of mumbo-jumbo :banghead: :blackeye: :(

We had to give our dog Valium for fireworks and thunder, nothing else worked. She would try and dig a hole behind the furnace to die in, it was that bad. Too many people have thought "If one is good, two is better!" and then blame the vet. Everything has to be someone else's fault. :(
I don't want to get all philosophical but the common sense I get here is what the internet was meant to be.
PS Fireworks are legal here, sold on every street corner. Kaboom! Smacking my neighbor upside the head 10 years ago was illegal but I never got a knock at the door or heard from the guy. Welcome to our little cult.

It makes me wonder . . . do vets (well, some) do it on purpose. It keeps them in business. I know I shouldn't even ponder that thought.

Today his AMPS was 259/ 14.4 and i gave him ever so slightly less 2.1 units (1 unit less). BG 3+ is 103/ 5.7 (blue!).

Gave him normal (not panic high carb!) food and willl test again..

There is a huge emergency clinic near us which we call "The cat killers of *****". I gave them a pass on their first mistake, got annoyed the second time and got red in the face the third time. They have an MRI in the basement and that monster has to be paid for somehow. We coughed up 3 mortgage payments for nothing to keep them in business. And you know they'll never admit to a mistake.
That same clinic was the one I mentioned to the vet that boarded Noah regarding an end of life scenario.

Which part is illegal Janet? Smacking your neighbor in the head or the other. When I asked him very politely to stop and pointed out the field across the street his wife started smirking and cackling like an old hen so I just couldn't help myself. I never heard another peep from either of them. :blackeye:
    My bad....not!
