    Hello,
My Kanika is showing some reluctance to getting her injections. I find it easier to tent her skin when she is sitting upright but she insists on sitting down(as in her picture). I also am trying to change the site of the injections since she has been getting the injection for about 6 months now. I usually give it about an inch form her spine on either shoulder. Any advise would be appreciated.
Up until about a week ago she was very cooperative.

When we began injecting Idjit, I watched a lot of you tube videos to see how to manage. I had to put him on a big towel, on my bed, and gave him his shot while he was eating. I tented his side skin and he never noticed. The he towel is because he's a bit messy sometimes, on my bed because he won't stay on a table and it was a comfortable position for me. Whatever works :cat:

Thanks for your help. She is one of those cats that doesn't like you to give the shot when she's eating. I am getting the shots into her. I am doing the best I can. Sometimes I can smell the insulin after I take the needle out so it's not perfect.

How many units of Lantus is she on now? How long has she been on that dosage?

Are you using insulin syringes to draw the insulin or are you using the pen needles that some with the solostar pen?

Has anything changed recently? Started a new insulin pen? Different syringes? Different food? Etc.

We've seen it happen where a cat starts resisting the injections when the shot makes them feel worse, perhaps due to their blood glucose dropping too low (too high of a dose) or stinging from the Lantus, or whatever. I'm not saying that's what happening, but I'd encourage you to start testing your cat's blood glucose at home to keep your cat safe. She might be trying to tell you something, and it might just be important.

She is on 4 units. I am using the insulin syringes (drawing it from the pen). She's been on that dosage for 3 months now.
Her Vet had been testing her monthly but last month felt she was doing well on the 4 units so now she has a return visit in July.
I am getting the syringes at CVS. They are always the same size but not always the same brand. I did start a new box recently.
I have not noticed any signs of her other than the resistance. She does seem to be better about it the last few days. Thanks for your suggestions.

If you can smell it it's a fur shot, a miss. Never try and make up for that right away, stay on your schedule.
I inject Noah in the bed where I test him. The syringe is preloaded with a little more than I know he'll need so he won't wander away after getting poked. I get him to lay on his side and do a partial tent over top of his rear shoulder.
I use 1/2 inch needles which are getting harder to find but on a long haired cat who hates getting shaved they make everything easier. Good luck.

Thanks Noah. I will try to lay her on her side. Maybe if she's in a good mood that will work.

I have a whole procedure I go through which is definitely not science based. I get all the things I need on a folded paper towel, lay it down beside Noah and try not to surprise him. He knows what's coming but he likes ear pulls, tummy rubs and having his tail pulled. Sometimes I sing Daddy's going to buy you a diamond ring if no one is watching. His brother was a gem, I'd lay out a beach towel on the table and thump it. He'd just jump up, "I'm ready". That's just dumb luck. Wish I had video of that and of him sitting on my lap in the car, vroom! I can't wait to get to the vet!
