I gave .5U for the first two doses.
Just before the third dose, Willow was around 364 mg/dL. I was going to give 1U before bedtime (the vet said to give 2U BID), but I'm pretty sure I ended up doing a furshot. I'm not sure if anything got in or not. I fed her right before I went to bed. I also gave her 1 mEq of potassium gluconate since her potassium is very low.

When I woke up, I fed Willow then checked her glucose and she was around 89 mg/dL. The rain took out my internet so I didn't know what to do. So I didn't give any insulin. If it matters, she did not eat overnight.

An hour later she was around 140.

I've syringe fed her small meals throughout the day and six hrs (+6?) after she was supposed to get the shot, she's around 365.

So how much insulin should she get tonight? Should it be .5U or 1U? Or does it depend what her number is preshot?

BTW, I'm working on getting the spreadsheet and all that stuff set up. It's hard to do that when you keep losing your internet. I'm still trying to read up about diabetes and order supplies and meds for CKD.

No, how much Lantus you give does not depend on the preshot numbers. Instead we look at how low the dose takes the cat, or the nadir point, which is somewhere in between the shot times. It depends on the cat, but is typically between 4 and 7 hours after the shot, though can be earlier or later. Can you test other than at shot times?

Sounds like you might have gotten some insulin in if sh got down to 89 the next morning. Maybe try 0.5 units tonight, and try getting a test before you go to bed,

And hello and welcome by the way. Lots of good information in the yellow starred Sticky Notes at the top of this forum. The will help you help our kitty. Feel free to keep asking questions, we love to help. And we will want to see that spreadsheet when you get it ready.

A couple other questions, what food is your kitty eating? Besides CKD, any other diagnosis for Willow? Did the vet mention ketones?
