Spot is so dramatic!

A little concerned that Spot is at 73 so early in the cycle. We still have hours to go before nadir. Guess it’s gonna be a long night!

You got a nice long low (safe!) cycle last night! What you didn't get was much sleep! I hope you're able to nap a bit today to recover from that. Way to go, Spot!

 

Yes! I was pleasantly surprised when he didn’t keep dropping! He rode that out quite nicely

Wow! What a nice cycle! Now you know why I suggest keeping coffee grounds in the hypo kit!!

 

Of course the great cycle would be a precursor to a sick day

He ate one can of FF this morning with his shot, then a little while later threw it up. After that he vomited liquid a few more times, wouldn't eat again, and of course went a little low this afternoon. He did lick at the gravy food I gave him due to the low numbers, but wasn't excited about it, and walked away every time I turned around. BUT at least he licked enough to steer his numbers up!

The CBD wasn't doing the trick, so I gave him a second dose, with no effect; gave him Pepcid, with no effect; and then finally gave him the cyproheptadine & Cerenia just a little while ago. That seems to have worked as he just ate a little bit more *crossing fingers*. I wish he would warn me on days he not going to want to eat, so I can lower his dose! ughhhhhhhh............

I feel like he is on the razor's edge again... hoping this is just a one day thing, and not pancreatitis rearing its ugly head once again

 

As far as dosing, I think I'm going to drop down to 2u tonight until I figure out if he's really feeling better or not. I just need him to be in safe numbers for a little while. I can't take all the drama!!

Yes, anytime they hit a lime green you want to reduce the dose anyway.

I'm so sorry Spot's had a rough day. And I completely understand that constant anxiety that the pancreatitis is going to come back. Sending some healing vines Spot's direction in the hopes that he'll wake up feeling better tomorrow and not have any more of this nonsense!

 

He does seem to be doing a little better today. He's still not eating a whole lot, but at least no vomiting today. That may just be because he still has the Cerenia in his system from yesterday though. We'll see how it goes this evening once it starts wearing off. Still holding my breath...

The 2u does seem to be working well for him at the moment, so that's one less thing I have to worry about (for now)

 

There is definitely something up with him. He’s not vomiting and eating ok for the moment, but his eyes are red-rimmed and he feels a little warm to the touch. He’s also sleeping in the back room instead of up with me. Small things I know but he just seems off... and his numbers seem to agree. Over 400 tonight.... yikes!

 

Hmmm...does he normally get those kinds of symptoms before a panc attack? Or is this something completely new?

 

He’s only had one *diagnosed* panc attack before back in April/May. Last time he stopped eating altogether and I had to force feed... but he wasn’t on CBD then so I’m wondering if that is what’s keeping him slightly interested in his food...? I really don’t know. He started acting off right around when the Cerenia was wearing off which makes me suspect nausea.. but he’s still picking at his food and not vomiting. Right now he finally came out but he’s laying sprawled with his belly flat against the cool hardwood floor

 

Sounds like p-titis Between the symptoms and the higher numbers. Do you have pain meds at home if you need them? The CBD may be enough, but if it gets bad you'll want to switch to bupe for a day or two. Controlling the pain can often help keep them eating enough to avoid having to syringe feed. Sending healing vines your way!

 

Spot thanks you for the healing vines. I don’t have any bupe but I plan to call the vet first thing to see about getting some. Also more fluids, just in case...

Ohhh I'm sorry to hear that! It does sound like it's the p-titis with the Cerenia wearing off when he starts to feel off. My guess is the CBD is helping with appetite, but I'd definitely look into the bupe too. Sending tons of healing vines...keep us updated!

 

If he stays in the mid-blues and higher today, I'd go ahead and increase the dose back up to 2.25u. He may need a little more insulin while he's feeling under the weather. Hopefully this will be a short little flare.

 

I thought about that this morning, but I wasn't going to be home to monitor early in the day today. The way things went yesterday, if I'm not there to coax him to eat, he won't do it, and then I worry about him going low again. While he's not feeling well, I'm going to try to work from home more often, but I still can't do it all day every day (as much as I wish I could). I'm leaving work early today, so I'll see where he is once I get home and then use that to help decide what to do tomorrow. I hate having to leave him at all, but I'd rather him be in mid-blues than risk going low while I'm not there..... feels like a tight rope walk

Also, to make matters worse, I dropped the CBD container on the floor this morning and most of it spilled out. Fortunately I had already re-ordered, but it won't be here for another 2 days......

 

It's good to see people who don't deny a cat can have issues like panic attacks. There's something else going on behind those eyes, maybe we'll never know.
Things are very relaxed here; no loud music, cat's on the bed and counter tops, no kids pulling tails. Noah was born upstairs 15 years ago with his 3 brothers, the 5 cats already here and a puppy. He was not the runt of the litter and has until last month has never been out of the house overnight. Despite all this he cannot be crated, I still cannot pick him up, he lived in our walk-in closet for 3 years and is afraid of windows.
How protective am I? Our dog was so terrified of fireworks and thunder she needed Valium, the weather channel was our best friend. I once punched/smacked a neighbor who wouldn't stop setting off fireworks in his back yard. That finally made his wife stop snickering and the cops never came.
Just wanted you to know Spot is not the only one. The neighbor moved years ago, he so totally deserved it.

 

I have the panic attacks when Spot has pancreatitis attacks. I guess I used a bad short form of the word... sorry for the confusion! I definitely agree that there is more going on behind his eyes. He always looks like he knows something that us puny humans can never understand

Aww your poor baby! I don't blame you at all for being pissed! Good riddance to bad neighbors!!

My daughter is 15, so beyond the tail pulling years, but we have occasional friends with young kids over, and Spot HATES it. He won't run away, but he'll sit there in the window with a bushy tail and hiss and swipe at anyone who gets close to him.. now I just put him away before kiddos come over.. and of course THEN he wants to come out to see what's happening...

 

Most of the staff at the stupid-market know me by now. I can't deal with crowded aisles and dense buggy pushers so I need to zip outside for a minute. They know I'll be back.
