    hey all-
Hope everyone and their kitties are doing well! Leo has been in remission about 2 months now, and I was just wondering about some basic stuff I can do to keep him there. A bit ago I was concerned because he lost weight and I was wondering if there was a reason, however I believe it was just because I did change him to a portioned low carb diet. (Who’d have guessed lol) anyway lately he’s eating more and happier and softer, and I was wondering about a few small things just so I can be sure I’m not risking his remission!
So generally he gets friskies pate or a few select flavors of fancy feast (lowest carbs according to the food chart) he’s always been a grazer though, and I do have a bit of Iams kibble for him and my other cat throughout the day. In addition, he gets some occasional temptations brand treats. I can’t find the carb content ect, but he’s addicted to them so I give him a few a day. Anyone have experience with either iams dry food or temptations treats? He’s been on iams for years so he was on a strict dry iams only diet when he became diabetic... however I’ve always heard it’s the best choice for cheap brands I can get at the pharmacy. I dunno. Let me know!
Thanks :) picture of betus for good measures below! 948252AC-4321-4840-9EF8-DDC5ADD431DB.jpeg

What I found for a good healthy treat is Purebites. They are only freeze dried chicken ( or other meats). All our pets love them. I buy a big bag of the dog treats then cut them up into cat size bites. The dog treats and cat treats are the same thing, the dog treats are cheaper per oz. I buy them from Amazon. All 6 of my pets just love them.

Temptations are loaded with carbs.. something like 35 or 40% I think. I am not sure which Iams dry food you are using, but they are probably all pretty high. I think even the "Health Naturals" chicken one is around 30% carbs. You could find the nutrition info on their websites and do some calculations (catinfo.org tells you how to calculate out approximate carbs when you do not have that info).

Personally, I would not risk feeding those things to my cat. PureBites is a good option, as already suggested. I also get that for my girls. Dr. Elsey's has dry food that is 5% carbs and Young Again Zero has only trace carbs (though it has been known to cause runny poop for many). You may not be able to get them at your local pharmacy, but they are probably safer options, if you want to feed any dry food at all.

Leo looks wonderful! Very bright eyed and definitely soft! We give Idjit the Pure Bites also, plus I bake chicken breast, cut into cat bite size chunks and freeze on a flat pan. Then I store in a Ziploc bag in the freezer. A quick zap in the microwave thaws a few pieces and he has a juicy treat.

Don't be afraid to use some of your own food. My cats always swarm when I'm making a sandwich or a salad or something and they completely transform in the presence of deli meat or chicken breast

For treats after blood tests and such, I use soft grain/gluten free refrigerated food. My diabetic just plays with freeze dried stuff so that's my sollution
