My boy, Jango, was diagnosed in January after I noticed he wasn't going to the bathroom. He had a blocked colon which is how we learned he wws diabetic.

He did GREAT for about a month before I noticed his original symptoms returned. Back to the vet for constipation again. He was sent home with stool softners and we were good to go!

Last Friday, same thing. Constipated again. He was there for 4 days while they gave him enemas, IV fluids, and did a bunch of tests.

Now tonight....its the same thing again. Im afraid my boss won't let me off work again. Im going broke trying to help my cats in general, and im not sure how much more I can spend(all 3 are newly diagnosed special needs.) I'm at my breaking point.

Any reccomendations to make my boy more comfortable or help him poop?? Has this happened to anyone else?

What are you giving him on a daily basis to prevent it? Is he on daily pumpkin? Mylanta?

Try giving him canned pumpkin (not pumpkin pie filling) or Miralax. Add a spoonful to his food along with some water in it. Both are safe to give daily. I prefer the pumpkin since my cats like the flavor of it. Pumpkin can also be used for diarreah.

Houston has had pooping issues long before being diagnosed as diabetic. Per the vet, I give him 1/4 tsp of Miralax daily for several days or until he has a good poop. I can't give it to him for to long because he starts to get what I call a leaky butt. Tried pumpkin but none of them will touch it.

Went to the vet today....Jango was diagnosed with mega colon. Because of the diabetes he can't receive the normal treatments. They are going to do what they can, but I was told there's a good chance I will have to help him cross the rainbow bridge. This breaks my heart, my boy is only 2. This is terrible.

I am very sorry for the Dx..

But might I suggest that you create another thread titled something like "Need info on MegaColon kitty" and make the question sign icon the Title's prefix from the drop down menu left on the subject line - you'll get more eyes on your post from the ppl with knowledge on Mega C. Several thousand people post here - chances are that some dealt with the disease and can share their tips.

What is the typical treatment that the diabetes interferes with? If he won't treat the cat I would get a second opinion.

Face Book has a Mega Colon Kitty group, I am also having problems with one of my civvie's constipation. He has problems with 1 of his back leg's and has recently had surgery on his bladder, I think that he cannot push with his back leg to push it out. I am going to post on the main forum, to see if anyone can help. I have tried Miralax and so far has not worked, he has a small amount of lactulose, but his doctor will not refill.

No, somewhere in these posts there is mention of using Mylanta. I use Miralax every day.
