Hello, I changed Oreo Joe to 3 1/4 units of Prozinc and after a couple of days had to admit that there was no way I knew what I was drawing up. Probably closer to 3½ - I am pretty much stuck with 50% sight as while I have a thin cataract the specialist said under that I have Macular Degeneration. I won't see better and hopefully it is really slow as in the end I will only have peripheral vision. I spend between 5 and 10 minutes drawing up his insulin. My eye muscles hurt and spasm and then blur. So in between doses or units are iffy. My husband checked and when I rechecked it was 4 so that is no help. But check his spread sheet it is better already.

I called and left a voice message at the vet's asking for a refill and nothing was called in so I called the vet and got through to the one that isn't ours. Our vet is out with a back injury. sigh
so vet said, she needed to know some of his numbers and amount of insulin he was getting. Then she said I don't like him getting that dose and still not being down far enough. I believe it is his hypothyroid medication that is causing this and I want you to stop it. We nicely discussed it with it ending in, "I will not give him kidney failure and I am not taking him off his pills." She said, Well then drop his insulin down to 1 or 1½ units and start over he is getting to much insulin and that will hurt him too. May I get some input on this. Is it possible I should be going back? I thought in a few days I could try 4 units as even though it is only a couple of days when I am actually drawing it to 3½ (I hope) that he is in the yellow in the morning. She only agreed to order the insulin if I told her I would try to work it out. Will be happy for input. Thank you!

Hi Bonnie- I'm so sorry that drawing the dose is so stressful. Any chance your husband could take over that part of things for you? You might talk with your vet about high dose conditions and see if there is a way to test for those. They would likely need to send to the lab in UK that does it, but Sweden may have one. Another option might be seeing if they would prescribe Lantus instead of Prozinc. Sometimes a cat that isn't responding well to one insulin will do better on another one.

Thank you. My husband can't see the lines either. He helped and drew up 4 Units a few days ago. I just paid $100 for a new bottle of Prozinc. I had asked in a post a week or so ago about if I should change and no one answered. This will have to go for the next couple of months.
