The first syringes I got were red capped and say BD Micro-Fine 0,5 U40 insulin.
Remember you are telling me what line to draw up to. I have been 8½ lines which I hope is 4½U.
I am running out of the red capped ones and went and got the new box of syringes and they are orange capped and say the same but end in U100.
Please tell me what to do. Is Oreo Joe flat because I am giving the wrong dose? What line should I be using. I look at that conversion chart and I see huge doses and have no idea what I am reading. I feel so stupid. on the red covered one I followed what the vet had drawn up at the office for a few days until I could get the insulin sent in. So I think I am ok but now that the syringes are 100 what do I do? Oreo Joe is still flat, I have been going 4 cycles and then upping by ½ in the morning. As I said I have been going 8½ lines yesterday and today and was going to draw up 9 lines.
Please don't tell me how to mulitply something and add this and that. When I got really sick 3 years ago I lost so much and along with huge gaps of memory I lost all math skills, peoples names and names of objects when I speak. I think really long then speak and if writing reread it a couple of time. Math is gone.
I have a few red covered ones left and will be able to just continue on those until I hear from you. Why can't that other vet ever order the same thing, it must be in his journal. She even said yes she found what she had ordered. argghhh

If your vet ordered the wrong thing, can't you call them and tell them and have them order the correct thing? ProZinc is a U40 insulin, so they should order you U40 syringes with 1/2 unit markings. Some people use a conversion chart and give U40 insulin with U100 syringes, but why complicate things? Especially if you have issues with things like this. The vet needs to get you the correct thing!

So I have been doing the right thing! Well here if you pick it up from the pharmacy it is yours for life. $20 for syringes that will confuse me. I am going to really complain about it but I pray that my vet is back and of course the clinic can't pay me for syringes I can't use. I sent my husband to pick them up. He didn't know to check and frankly the picture on the cover looked red. It wasn't until I held it under a bright light it was some red orange. Well I will call Monday Morning. I was so afraid I did wrong. The U100 have black lines and I couldn't see anything I would do. I had opened a pkg and dumped them with the U40 thinking they were the same. Started to fill with insulin and couldn't see. That is when I really started to check. My vet best be back. Or I must be much more explicit with the not my vet.
Thank you! I am so glad you answered. I would have worried all night. Hugs, Bonnie

Aside from cap colour you should see U40 or U100 clearly marked on the syringe barrel somewhere.

@Bonnie & Oreo Joe can you post a picture of the U40 needles that you were/currently are using? And then a picture of the new needles (U100) that you purchased. A picture of them showing the markings.

I just panicked yesterday as everything is so hard for me and I thought I might have messed up all of these weeks of insulin. I called the clinic today and in the midst of firmly stating if the syringes were ordered wrong it wasn't my fault when the gal ( another vet I don't know) said that the clinic had ordered the U40 syringes and it was the pharmacy error and they should take the loss and replace my syringes. We have to go through a central switchboard for all of that chain of pharmacy, the lines are long and you leave your number and they call back and ask what pharmacy I want and they try and put the call through. If the pharmacy is to busy they don't answer. Then I start over again. But I gave Oreo his first shot of 5Units as I had 20 U40 syringes. I am glad it wasn't the wrong syringe from the beginning as I can not see the black lines on the U100. With the red markings as long as you tell me how many red lines I am to go to with some squinting, reading glasses and good light it goes pretty good. So far it seems that my eyesight can not be helped. Turns out my husband can't see well enough to draw up insulin in either. Ahhh the pharmacy did have an order for U40 so they will order them for me and they should be in on Friday and the boxes can be exchanged. Oreo has just been pretty flat and all I could think was the first time the syringes were wrong then the other way and by the time I tried to think rationally it had gone out the window.
Thank all of you for being here to pull me out of an un-needed panic. Hugs, Bonnie

Tonight was the last 5U dose. The first time I have seen a big dip at +4 but the morning and pm preshots were in the dark pink in the 300's. Is ok that I raise his dose again for morning? Thank you! Bonnie

Yes I'd raise it in the AM. That dip at +4 was nice, but it wasn't as far as we'd like it to go down.
