Raja was doing well sans the weak hind legs until a few days ago when we stopped eating or had very reduced appetite. Visits to the vet and blood tests havent given anything conclusive. He does have two bad infections in his molars and at this point we realise that surgery is not an option. He has been given injectable antibiotics and oral one for his tooth. I gave him his oral dose last night but today he seems very lethargic and I havent given his morning dosage. I am at a loss at what to do. He seems to be in somewhat pain, maybe in the mouth as his jaws look swollen. I am suppose to take him for xrays, but knowing that he cannot have surgery I am not sure what to do to alleviate his pain.

    Please send Raja prayers

Hi Arman - Sorry to hear Raja is not well. Going in to the weekend, I would hope you have some type of pain meds available. The only other thing I can think of to suggest is the liver shake that has been helpful when kitties aren't eating.

Sending prayers and feel better vines for Raja and you both!

Sending prayers and vines for lovely Raja. Here is the recipe for the Liver Shake, which can be used temporarily as a complete diet for cats who are doing poorly. Most cats seem to like it, even ones who won't eat anything else. You could also try bone broth.

THE '~LIVER SHAKE~' FOR SICK CATS

This liquid food is appropriate for cats suffering from conditions where they are eating very little or not at all such as anemias, leukemias, deficiency states with symptoms of lethargy, listlessness, and weakness.

1 cup RAW LIVER (BEEF, or CHICKEN)
1 cup FRESH CARROT JUICE or V-8, or Tomatoe Juice
    1/4 cup *FRESH FILTERED WATER
    1 RAW EGG YOLK
    1 tsp.KELP POWDER OR SPIRULINA

COMBINE AND MIX IN A BLENDER UNTIL LIQUEFIED. (Note: it will be frothy)

    Dosage:

Administer 10cc daily 3-6 times a day. (6Occ per day max)

Some cats will need to be force-fed with a syringe, while others will drink it out of a bowl.

This food has a sweet and salty taste, and the energetic properties of tonifying (energy boosting), warming and stimulating and supports the kidneys, spleen, liver and stomach.

This drink is a complete dinner for a sick cat until they feel good enough to eat by themselves again.

*Substitute rice water if the cat has diarrhea. Rice water
is made by boiling white rice (2 Tbsp) with water (1cup) for 30 minutes.
This liquid aids digestion and assimilation and inhibits the symptoms of diarrhea.

May I ask why dental surgery is not an option for him? I thought it wasn't an option for my 20-year-old, because of his elderly years, but he just had massive dental surgery to remove all his teeth and the roots, and he is doing great.

ETA: Antibiotics can also upset the stomach, and could be contributing to his lack of eating.

Sorry Raja is doing so poorly. :bighug::bighug::bighug: I found buprenorphine really helped with pain. As Lucy mentioned above p, ABs can wreck havoc with tummy flora. You might want o add a probiotic to his daily meds. Make sure you give it two hours away from the antibiotic.

Hey Arman, I hope that Raja is doing better. Infected teeth are very painful and always would take Bubba off his feed.

Question: Did he become lethargic after the injectable AB. There is one called Convenia that if a kitty has a reaction to it, it can be bad and they would need to be on supportive care.

I hope that you and he are okay....... please update when you can.
