Hey guys, I'm using the Relion glucose meter and I didn't seem to have any concerns about it until...today.

Usually if I get a number that I doubt I retest, and the second reading is 10-30 points from the first reading or the same so all is well.

But today I got some readings that were much too far apart, now I'm worried. All in minutes of one another at +6

    246
    379
    295

    uhhh...???

246 and 295 Ill let slide, but 379 is almost a 100 points difference. Is my meter broken?
(Not to mention those readings are annoying, guess this evening was a fur-shot on accident, gah!)

Has anyone else experienced something similar with Relion meters? Do I need to get a new one now?

I use the Relion Confirm meter and I do sometimes get those same types of results (as can be seen on my spreadsheet), but I've been told on here by @Kris & Teasel that meters are allowed to have a variance of up to 20% per reading and not to worry about it. I'm sure she or others on here can confirm this or give further insight, since I'm still pretty new to all this myself, but either way, just thought I'd let you know that you're not alone in getting readings like that.

Wow... I find that pretty distressing to be honest! I am glad its "normal" though...

if I could afford it Id go to a higher tier and more consistent meter...

Thanks so much for the reply and easing my mind. I was about to go buy a new meter.

I had something similar happen, testing off the same drop of blood even. I go with the two that are close to each other and try not to worry (that is the hard part).

Thanks so much. I guess there have been no issues so far so I guess I shouldn't worry too much.

This can happen even with the AlphaTrak pet meter that so many vets recommend. Try not to stress about it and learn to focus on overall patterns. That's why we like the spreadsheet we recommend here - patterns at a glance.

You're welcome :) That's what this place is for. But yeah, even if it's not something to worry about, it's still annoying when you get results like that.

I use the FreeStyle Lite monitor but the strips are so expensive [upwards of $30 per 50] that I rarely retest. Only if I get an abnormally low number and worry about whether and how much to shoot. I was considering getting the Relion Micro in hopes of getting the strips easily from Walmart without having to order online as I am doing now and wait and wait and wait. . . .

I've seen that same kind of inconsistency with my Relion meters. (I have Confirm and Prime meters.) If I think something is wrong with a meter or strip, I'll test my own blood. I'm not diabetic, so my BG always falls within a narrow range. My meters seem accurate, but I did have some bad strips once.

I do the same thing and test my blood when Beta's numbers seem questionable. (I'm on low carb atkins diet so my readings are always around 100 or less.) I haven't gotten the free calibration soln from Relion yet but compared this meter to my old one (prodigy) a few times and it was within 10%. I have Relion Prime. They said when the soln expires to call and they'll send me more for free. A good deal I think.

Exactly, Tracy. Call the ReliOn support number and they'll send you some. We've heard that it's best not to mention that it is for your cat. Just say it is for you if they ask.

It's s little peace of mind when numbers seem wonky.
