    Hello friends. @LuvinThisPig
I haven't logged in for a while. My thoughts are still with all the cats on these pages, fighting the good fight.

My surviving civvie has been vomiting recently. Today my vet pointed me to a radcat recall at recalls.gov, dated 8/21/2018. It's on the recent recalls page, in the FDA column.

"Tue, 21 Aug 2018 22:17:00 -0400) Radagast Pet Food, Inc. of Portland, OR is expanding its voluntary recall to include an additional quantity of Rad Cat Raw Diet across all varieties with Best By dates of 10/19/18 through 12/3/19 because it has the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. Radagast Pet Food is conducting this voluntary recall out of an abundance of caution because of its strong commitment to food safety and quality."

The link from the recalls page to Radagast basically says that all the food produced between May 2017 and August 9, 2018 might have been contaminated with listeria. It says no illnesses have been reported in any pets or human food handlers. It says the source of contamination has been found and fixed.

I am quite sure the radcat is not the cause of my civvie's recent problem.
I am continuing to feed her radcat, with Best Buy dates after the 12/3/19 recall date.
I do wonder about episodes in the past when the cats rejected their radcat meals for no good reason.

    Wishing you all well.

PS. Maybe my civvie with kidney disease has been vomiting due to constipation. Her appetite is great but her stools have become very large and problematic since I added a prescription renal canned food (Royal Canin) to her diet (because she sometimes rejected the radcat). I stopped the canned food day before yesterday and I have continued the radcat chicken and I am hoping for the best.

Hi MJW - It is great to hear from you! I hope you civvie's food change will resolve the problem. I have always found the reference felineconstipation.org to be very helpful when there is a constipation problem. For a cat with CKD, I worry about vomiting because it can be dehydrating. If your civvie has been recently seen by your vet, I would think they could "feel" any significant constipation problem. Hope it is quickly resolved. :bighug:

There was a post about a week ago about this recall, but it is good to keep the word out because some including @LuvinThisPig reported having a large quantity of the affected lots. Hopefully, it is still the case that no illness (human or feline) has been attributed to this, but still better to be safe than sorry.

Please come back and check in from time to time. We miss you! :bighug:

Oh I am so glad to hear from you!

Yes, there was a point that I suspected the food in somethings, namely a sudden and synchronized outbreak of colitis in my house hold. However, I really am leaning towards a combination of stress and other things. I have been feeding the lamb, some obviously from the alleged contaminated lots, for many months now. Do I know for sure if he got sick from them? No, I don't. I still can't explain away the colitis in both cats at the same time. However, he has been eating this food as many cats have for quiet a while and that was the first incident that we ever had that might have had something to do with it.

We just got back from a huge vet trip and I had them do an ultrasound, namely to look for infections deep set in the kidneys and urinary tracts. There were none that were visible, but still awaiting the Chem panels back.

Thank you for tagging me in this! Am I still feeding radcat? Oh yes, I am. I mean, after the recent recall, it would seem there was no use to not to. He had already been eating them anyways.

I did, however, find out the other day that the new batch I will be getting will be of 6 containers outside of the recall dates, so that is very good.

And constipation is no good! I am sorry your civie is having to deal with it. Lactulose and MiraLax? Those are always good. But, you mentioned the canned food... If I gave canned with all that fiber man would Pig not fair well either...

Yeah. Not sure what we are going to do with these. I have a ton of Pork just sitting in the freezer. The Lamb I have now is from a clean batch.

I did hear that RadCat was going to start HPPing their lamb and venison varieties. Hopefully that will not turn him away from it. It should not change the food at all, but some say that their cat will not eat HPPed food...

My supplier will refund me for the recalled batches sitting in my freezer. They didn't notify me about the recall though...
They did immediately switch to "good" batches.
I guess it would be hard for you to ship yours back? Maybe a photo would do?
I would probably use it, unless the cats had rejected some from that particular batch. When I had 2 civvies, they sometimes rejected a batch in unison.
    That always made me suspicious.
