Are there any carbohydrates at all in Young Again Zero cat food? If I feed Gomez Young Again, what impact will it have on his blood glucose readings?

The Young Again website says that their Zero formulas are 1% or less carb content. I've been feeding Jaxa the YA Zero mature and now Zero Mature LID since March of this year; she has done well on it when I watch how much she eats (she gets gassy and had loose bm when she eats more than the daily recommended amount for her size). Her bg is good though; it didn't happen instantly and there were other factors but we haven't had an insulin shot since the end of June and she is still testing in the 50s-60s on her low carb diet. I know some people swear by YA and others don't like it; I keep feeding it because Jaxa likes it and they ship quickly in-state. I don't believe in miracle cures, but it was good to be on a low carb diet- YA just isn't the only option.

I would say that because it is low carb it will probably have the same kind of impact that other low carb foods would have, and you would want to be careful to always test before giving shots as diet changes from high to low carb can have a big impact on bg for your kitty.

If you haven't gotten a free sample from them yet, I'd suggest getting that too. It will show if Gomez is willing to eat it (if not, that will save you some $).

Glassgoblin pretty much covered everything, but I'll offer input from another YA user. I feed Kitsu Young Again Zero Mature (not the LID one) and she seems to like it a lot. They will send you a free sample if you call or email them. For Kitsu, it has a really positive impact on her BG levels - I only have to give her 3/4 or 1/2 of her normal insulin dose when she is eating YAZ Mature exclusively. Of course, by feeding her any other wet foods in between, her BG levels change and she needs more insulin to make up for it. Consider reducing Gomez' dose if you decide to feed it to him exclusively with no other food, otherwise he might go into hypo territory if you continue giving him the same dose. If you have any other questions, please ask!

Some cats experience diarrhea with YA. Another choice should this occur is Dr. Elsey’s. Chewy sells it.

I just want to drop in here to say when asked both Young Again and Dr Elsey's send me free samples of their dry cat food. Young Again even send free sample of the Zero Mature treats. Sammie liked them both.

Just watch out if your baby starts to get a runny tum. Truffles couldn’t tolerate even a small amount daily as a grazing food between wet and I know he’s not the only cat to react like that.
