Hi to all the wonderful members on here who have helped Mo and I. I have not gotten back in months as I went through some major health issues myself. Also another pet issue, surgery, all that good stuff. Anyway I believe the last time I wrote Mo was in horrible shape peeing everywhere. It’s been sooo long and so many vet visits I cannot remember crap anymore. Fast forward, he had been ok for awhile acting so much better.. I’ll have to look in his huge file how he came to be ok for a couple months then he starts losing alot more weight, hiding again not coming out, I started to wonder and always seemed the insulin made him worse. I know it’s horrible, but my prozinc was almost gone and I even thought it was too old so I stopped it for awhile like a month and he seemed so much better even I know ever ssince day one he never could stay regulated and all those curves I went to at the very first vet that started at 1 unit then ended at 7 when we almost lost him to overdose $700 later. That was just the one time. I know it’s my fault I should have got a meter but so many ignorant vets I swear. They never said change his diet, one asked if he got hurt because of his neurapothy, it’s pretty bad his poor back legs.I’m like no remember I told you he has diabetes and it’s neurapothy! Hes taking prozinc but hasn’t for awhile it might be something else. She doesn’t do any bloodwork at all and sends me home with lantus , not prozinc like he was on and says give him 2 units. So I do and he’s once again looking like death for a few days, hiding under the bed ,eyes glazed over so bad . Then there he is my sweet boy every single morning I open my eyes he is laying right there near my head staring at me looking all bright eyed. He literally every night would sleep on my arm I’d ssy cmon on he’d lay over my arm with his two paws and we’d sleep like that almost all night. It’s his body that is giving out. We have been doing this for 2 years almost. I feel I failed him, My home is 3 months behind, I just paid $3500 for surgery for my dog.He just has an awesome personality so I know he was trying to act happy and engage but he has never been really healthy after all this time. He has lost so much weight, been to see about 3 more different vets I cannot even handle how incompetent, uncaring and dismissive a few are. I was going to put him down one day and of course he perks up at the vets( which he seems to do every time) purrs rubs up against everyone, hmm go figure!! He doesn’t stress like any cat I’ve ever had. Ok
So one vet I loved was hopeful said he has an infection gave him a 2 wk antibiotic shot I think I gotta find paperwork and a b12, he’s a great cat he’ll be fine. Come back in a couple weeks. Sooo I had an emergency with my dog then it had been like a month. He was great for that couple weeks assured me I should give him the insulin at 2 units. I go back and she’s gone to Australia the first and only vet I loved, This last person was a horrible person to say the least. She dismissed everything I said cut me off and said we should check his thyroid which I doubted then said he’s dehydrated I need to give him fluids , ok i said, being just direct and rude. Oh, I forgot, now he has a big long drool too it’s so sad with a kinda swollen chin. I said maybe his teeth are bad. No she says they’re fine! Ughhhhhim at my wits end.I got a copy of his bw atleast but sends me home with liquid amoxicillin which now he really hates me after a couple doses in his mouth! I said can’t you just give him a shot? Well she huffs and puffs and says it’s more money. Well this just cost me $200 anywat and had a whole list ready to ask her. I’m def emailing this place. I had to work yesterday and thought I’d find him dead when I got home. Can’t afford one more vet visit. I haven’t gave him lantus for 2 days. Now he seems ok but not really still under the bed. Last night he’s out watching tv cleaning himself like hey what’s up?!!! Unbelievable!! Makes me hopeful in a way because what I did get from these vets are his organs are fine o liver or kidney problems and no sugar in the urine. Also I got the zobaline and crush it up in his food. Only 3 mg is that right? I think I just saw there’s 1000 mgs? He’s so sensitive to touch it’s sad, every where. His neck , side, back No where else to turn
My friends literally think he’s gone already I took him so many times to be put down.No one can believe I spend so much money I don’t hsve but he’s my favorite. My only friend I have to try everything but not if he’s going to stay in pain.

Ikm so sorry you are having such a rocky road with the animals right when you are having health problems yourself. First, let me reply to the why not give a shot of the two week antibiotic, (Convenia probably). Many vets give the injection at the first sign of a urinary tract infection or inflammation, without doing a uring culture, which takes several days for results. Then, if it doesn’t go away and you bring the cat back, they may try a different drug. The problem with that is much of the time, Convenia isn’t the right drug and won’t work. There are many different bacteria and yeast,... that can cause infection in the urinary tract. By giving the wrong one, they prolong the amount of time for kitty to be healed. UTIs are painful and a good reason for them to a oid the litter box and urinate more often and try it all over the place trying to find a place that doesn’t hurt. Of course that doesn’t have anything to do with it, so it doesn’t work for them and they suffer. When you find out what prescription they actually need, it is important to go through the fight it get it into them. A UTI will wreck havoc with everything. Clearing it up and making sure it is gone is on the top of the list of priorities. You won’t have a happy, healthy cat until he can pee without pain. If you’ve ever had a kidney infection or urinary tract infection, you know it is extremely painful and you feel like you always have to urinate, even when you just gone. It is worth the fight to get the appropriate prescription in him and it can be quite a fight!

My cat, Rusty had a UTI last Fall and I didn’t realize it. When she wouldn’t eat for 24 hours and was losing weight I took her in. She hat fatty lipidosis due to diabetes. It took me weeks of antibiotics, force feeding, and insulin to get her back on track. Once her liver was normal and her UTI was cleared up and she was eating she imprived and diabetes went into remission. At the recommendation of the vet I started giving subQ fluids to keep her hydrated and she flourished. About May of this year I quit testing her BG because it was always normal and quit giving her the fluids. By July she was dehydrated and had high BG again and had a UTI. The ER vet gave her a shot of the two week antibiotic and then I took her to her regular vet the next morning. They did a urine culture, gave insulin, ut they couldn’t regulate her BG. I brought her home on day three anyway and we got the urine culture back and the two week antibiotic shot was the wrong drug. I started her on the right oral drug and got her to eat and changed from the prescription diabetes food to low carb food, giving her fluids. She is now her spunky self, using the litter box, eating on her own, enjoying being petted again, interacting with the other animals normally. She needs less insulin every week. She started at 7 units twice a day! I am now giving her 0.5 units Novolin N, twice a day and she is staying in the normal range .
There will come a time when we all have to decide that their quality of life isn’t worth the effort, but if the cat is suffering from urinary tract issues, it is still possible to end up with a healthy, happy kitty again and it shouldn’t cost an arm and a leg. Unfortunately it does take the help of a good vet and it does take time, both hard things to come by. Since you already have the oral antibiotic, I would make a last stab at getting it into her for the full 10-14 days, (or whatever was prescribed). If it’s a pill follow it with a syringe of broth or water. If it’s liquid and she spits it all over and drools, clean her up and try again. It is the fountain of youth, if it is the right drug to heal her urinary tract. She may hate you now but once she is out of pain, she will be happy again. She may seem normal for a bit and then suddenly be fearful again because she may not be hurting until when she has to urinate. It can be quite painful and hurt after she pees, so it is natural that she would want to curl up and hide from the pain.
If you are already at the end of your rope and have to give up, please know we understand that too. ❤️

Thank you so much for your reply. Wow you sure have been though alot also and so many other people on here that love their animals. I’ve read a ton on here and learned so many things in the past year..I swear I go back and forth with this. I will keep giving him this then. Although I won’t see him again til tomorrow..He’ll be pissed off lol I understand it has to be done. Ty so much. I have so much happening. I wonder if I should give him the lantus with food still. I don’t know. Maybe lower the dose. I havent gave it in a few days. When I make a little more money I’ll take him to this vet that did my dogs surgery. I love her so much, it’s a pricey place but she was so understanding and my dog was so loved there by the whole staff. He had a broken jaw and torn tendons, severe lacerations in his front leg , he was missing for a couple days and it is a total mystery how this happened. I’m going to email her tonight. I used up my care credit card for my dog. I’ll go to her ASAP ty ty ty. I hate that I can’t get back on here as much as I like. I have 2 other cats too. Another that needs his mouth looked at too. His breath is really bad and when he yawns you can tell it hurts. I need the lottery I swear. I still want to take the stray cats home from work!wth is wring wih me?

    Hi there.
I am sorry to read you've had health issues.

I am not sure where you are with Mo at the moment, so some simple questions to help everyone here help you

1 - Did you start the Zobaline for possible neuropathy.
2 - Are you home testing Mo's BG levels ?
3 - Has he received regular insulin ?
4 - If so , how is the dose decided ?

I am a little confused about some of what is written.

Did Mo go to a vet and a UTI was diagnosed ? Cats with diabetes are more prone to these issues, especially if not kept as regulated as possible with BG tests and dosing.
Is he receiving the correct help with this UTI?

If his diabetes has not been regularly addressed then yes, the neuropathy could well have worsened.

To me he sounds ill because of the diabetes . He sounds poorly but not at his end days.
If Mo is hiding and general feeling dreadful , then he is not feeling well. With care , he can be made to feel more comfy and well and will be a happier cat.

    Hello,
This has been difficult because I have relied on the vets to determine his doses. Been to a dozens curves at different vets. Now, I have given him his amoxicillin only 3 days since last visit. I’m taking him now, he’s on zobaline been eating good except for today. I haven’t been testing myself just keep bringing him back spending $$. Keeping on the 2 units but not consistently so it’s my fault . I’ve had blocked cats in the past I know how deadly , he went a tiny bit today so I’m on my way to the emergency. I work 12 hr days it’s no excuse and just got o er shingles blah blah I know I can’t let him suffer

Doing a curve at home will give you better results - Mo will be less stressed - and will save you a ton of money. Home testing is where it's at and will help you and Mo immensely.

Ok, here’s a pic from what I got from that last visit , hopefully you can see it. I’m gonna keep trying. I work on the weekends 10 hr shifts so I was anxious about his condition during the past couple days. I have kept up the antibiotic and he’s back to peeing good in the litter box, Thank God. and boy was he mad. He tries to spit it out and I just hold his mouth shut easy, I have him between my legs facing up and facing away on his hind legs so it goes down, literally. My mobile vet always took him in the bathroom so I do that so there’s no escaping.
Now to just get him regulated.
I have been going back and forth with it constantly on my mind. Thinking I can’t do it, but I can!!I have to try. Geez just last night I told my daughter I was gonna put him down. Then I’m up thinking all night and reading all these posts, I have to believe he can feel better because he goes back and forth throughout the day, good then hiding. I sure would love to see him be great for a whole day! The past two days I woke up to him sleeping on me again, I sure hope I can do it. So the questions I have are: when to test, how man times a day? And what number am I looking at to shoot. Thank you so much, all of you!❤️

Remember I said I wasn’t fond of her to say the least. She didn’t listen to what my concerns were. His drooling and swollen jaw and now has a wound under his chin, it wasn’t there then. It’s prob from his back claw scratching maybe ? I don’t know, then I start thinking omg maybe it started inside or I have a cat that goes after him sometimes I can’t really tell what it’s from...I have anoither another 10hr shift today. I have to get my meter today. I can go to Walmart and get a human one I saw , correct?

Hello, I just found your posts about your kitty Mo. I don't understand why you're not on the Lantus forum? There are people there that can definitely help you & your Kitty.

There are lots of people that work full time & they can tell you how to test & feed Mo so he can get better.

Don't give up on him ! There are ways you can do this.
Best of luck to you & your Kitty :) :bighug:

Glad you found a testor. I got mine at Walmart too. I practiced on myself to learn to use it. I have no idea what’s causing your cat’s swelling and drooling, but yes, he could scrape his chin scratching it and make it worse. I have one that has acne on his chin and it I don’t keep his nails well trimmed he makes it worse.
Yes, do post in the Lantus group now. I use a different insulin and can’t advise you about when to test and give the Lantus, but they can!
