Previous condo Didn't want to eat again this morning at 6:30 (AMBG). By 7am I dumped it out and gave another flavor - he about 1/2 - 3/4 of it. Trying 1/2 Gaba for 8 hours. Hopefully he will eat the rest soon... I noticed his drooling is back too, as of yesterday or the day before. I have to somehow look in his mouth again soon. Cerenia and Ondon? Why both? I wasn't giving him the Cerenia in his food, I was just giving to him orally coated in butter and rinsed with water since it was so small (1/4 pill daily). So I don't think the capsule is needed as of right now, but I might order it just in case. The Gaba and Probiotics he has eaten in his food (so far). Thanks Cynthia <3 I hope you are doing ok. I am making a note about Allivet, hopefully he will only need a weeks worth... but you're right it would be smart to have it on hand if needed. Yeah Dr. McCue said "he should feel better than he did after his dental". Yeah..... that would have been nice. With the addition of the pancreatitis I think its making everything worse. What is Titans cortisol and thyroid supplement doses? Shmee is .25 pred (will need to go up eventually, his level is low but treating the thyroid first), and .35 levothyroxine since his levels were low, and he said this causes more pain (muscle soreness) and compounds the pancreatitis. I will have to take a look at your condos and SS when I get a chance today. It will probably be later this evening before I can get back on the board unfortunately. @Wendy&Neko I forgot to mention before that he will not eat the duck pill pockets :/ so if I decide to start with those again they would have to be the high carb. He used to find pills in there too, eat around it and leave the pill
They target different receptors. Cerenia is more for vomiting and ondansetron is for nausea. They usually go hand in hand.
Worth taking a good look, the drooling, as you know, could well indicate tooth problems, reading back through your previous condo his behaviour, sniffing at the food and walking away, could be nausea or just down to painful mouth, at least that was my experience with BFG, he also didn't want me anywhere near him got angry when I tried to pet him, which is not like him. One thing that I did and it worked for a while was to blend his food into a baby food consistency so he didn't have to chew that meant that I could at least get some food into him. ETA it transpired that all of BFG's problems were down to a cr**py mouth, once he had his extractions and the infection abated he has improved.
Titan takes generic hydrocortisone tablets 2.5 mg twice a day. (up from original once a day to counter low BG s) The levothyroxine is 0.1 ml on his food once a day. the solution "leventa" is 1mg/ml so that is 0.1 mg/day. Seems Shmee's cortisone dose is lower, and levothyroxine is higher. We are not due for T4 test until 5 October Titans dosing schedule
Unfortunately, Leventa is no longer available here in the US. I used to give that to my civvie so I was sad when FDA banned it in the US. This is just a FYI for anyone curious about it...
Sorry I am finally able to come back on. I was going to give another 1/2 Gaba eight hours after but he would not eat at 3:30 when I tried. I dont think he feels good enough to eat without the Gaba and maybe 1/2 isnt enough? :/ Didnt want to eat at his PM 6:30 meal either, so I gave a full Gaba and Cerenia (just got some from the vet today) orally with butter and water. Not happy, but ate 1 hour after the Gaba at 7:30 and is still begging to eat more. He acts STARVING when he is on the Gaba! Ugh. I miss his meow. He was always VERY talkative. Now, hardly anything at all. We used to say he was more like a dog.... meowing at the door when we came home. He loved to talk to us, LOUDLY. Lol... never thought I would miss it.
I hope Shmee gets his meow back too. But he might not. Earlier this year, Leo lost his purr for over 2 months. It didn't come back in full force, but he recovered from the small lull.
Some cats do better on ondansetron, some do better on Cerenia. Some need both, which was Neko when she was on chemo and probably had some nausea from the heart condition and CKD too. Ondansetron is a people drug, you just need a script to fill at a regular pharmacy. I hear Costco in the US has good prices if you get the generic instead of the Zofran. I hope you can figure out a good gaba dose soon.
When my Gussie had hyperT, he meowed all the time but after the I131 and his thyroid levels dropped too low, he didn’t. Once we got them back to a normal number, his meows returned to normal. I hope this happens for Shmee.
Yep ^^ what she said. I tend to throw the whole medicine cabinet arsenal at Gizmo when he is having a flare. What is the dosage of Cerenia you are giving - it may not be enough. I will try and find the post on it.
Here is the post @Stacy & Asia did on Cerenia. http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/...ia-info-cerenia-doesnt-work-read-here.195611/
Yes it's a shame that the FDA moved to ban all the other veterinary thyroid supplements the moment that one manufacturer (Lloyd) got approval for theirs. Although the pills come in 9 different sizes, the flexibility of a solution is obvious. But perhaps that conflicts with the FDA's desire for a safe delivery system.
