If you can check the main forum posts you will see the mess I have been in for weeks. I was following advice from here to raise his ProZinc ½ U every 5th shot. I was up to 11½ and 1 dose of 12U when I was stopped. The numbers were still in the purples so I was getting nowhere. But then was told he wasn't diabetic, I had caused him to be so sick etc. That I had posted here. He went down and down in insulin and started to go even higher hitting into the reds. I kept being told that it would take awhile to make his pancreas realize he wasn't diabetic. Frankly I thought it was bologna and he was diabetic but my hands were tied. In the end the vet blew up because she joined FD board and read everything I ever posted and called me and said I did nothing but lie. She said she would no longer treat Oreo Joe and gave me 2 days to get an appointment with the animal hospital quite away from here. I knew we couldn't afford to go there with Oreo Joe as a regular vet care. I spent a morning calling around and found a vet who said he would be happy to help me and I should go to the hospital and see only a senior vet for diabetes and he would get his recommendations and work with us through his office and consult with the hospital when needed. Appointment with Hospital is Oct 10th. Now I am on my own. The day she called and carried on I raised him ½ Unit. Of course this is taking forever and at 6½ U he was 355 this AM. I still need to go ½ U every 5th shot? He is bouncing around, laying on the windowsills and checking the feral cats wandering around. Stops to check out an interesting scene on Animal Planet and such. But inside of him this is hurting his body.
I will hopefully be able to switch to Levemir when seen at the hospital.
Hugs to you all, Bonnie and Oreo Joe

Hey Bonnie. I've been following your post out on Main. I'm glad you got into a different vet, and glad that you're back to raising his dose! I also think Lev might be a great option. It'll allow you to hopefully flatten things out more. We've seen it work wonders on high dose kitties and I've seen kitties who were hard to regulate get into much better numbers before!

First, clarification. On the US sheet, on the 16th and 19th you have some low PMPS. Those are just world numbers that didn't get converted right? They are exactly the same as the numbers on the world sheet, so I wanted to be sure you didn't get 20s for preshots!

Second, yes. I'd keep raising like that. Get whatever mid cycles you can to see how it affects him, but we were carefully raising the dose before, and my guess is he just needs more insulin. Remember, kitties need what they need and that's OKAY. I know Ellen made you drop the dose and gave you some pretty ridiculous info so I'm glad you're done with her.

Third, you are NOT on your own. We're here for you and Oreo Joe! Please feel free to post here daily, weekly, whenever you like. We'll be happy to hop in and give you whatever info we can, and also a shoulder to cry on if you need.

I haven't been checking the US side since I just put in on the world side. But No he hasn't had a preshot that was low. He has hit in the 16's a couple of times and this afternoon at +7 he is 302. Just missed the yellow! Such a sweet little food expert. He looks at what he has loved for years and says get me the one that is double the price because I am your little man. He is so sweet when I call him he comes and waits for me to pick him up to do his glucose. Thanks for answering.

Hi Bonnie - good to see you here in Prozinc forum. Nice thing about Prozinc is you can increase whenever you need to - that will be different once Levemir is started, as doses are held for several cycles. Rachel and the good folks here will take good care of you.

Oh Bonnie I just skimmed through the thread. Wow, that's been quite the roller coaster for you! I hope things go well with the new vet! Do keep us updated.

I think you could raise every three to four cycles as long as you are testing again. If you get a test or two during the cycles to keep an eye on Oreo Joe, you should be fine to increase a little more frequently. As soon as you get a blue for mid-cycle though, make sure to post and have us look. That's often an indication that it's time to slow down the increases a smidge.
