    Yesterday

Vet called me this morning (different one) as I was about to walk out the door with supplies to take up there and said she ATE a little last night and more this morning and he really felt she was miserable there, so thought she could probably go ahead and come home! I had to smile when he told me that "she just sits in the cage and glares at us....it's obvious she does not want to be here" (That's my China!! She lets you know exactly what she thinks of you!!)

Of course, I was thrilled with his opinion but we decided just to be sure, he'd go ahead and run another BUN/creatinine to make sure.....and by the time I got up there, they'd have the results.

Her BUN dropped from 74 yesterday to 50 today (it was 48 pre-dental) so he said "take her home"!

Didn't want to send her home on AB's since he really didn't think there was any reason to (no infection in her mouth, skin, urinary tract, GI tract) so why risk making her nauseous with oral AB? (I like the way this man thinks)

He did send home a couple of mirtazapine.....evidently they gave her some last night and she seemed to tolerate it well, so "just in case".

Of course the civvies think I just brought home a new cat that doesn't smell anything like the old one so everybody is a little on edge, but China is acting better....still not totally my China, but a lot better than she was.

She hasn't had any insulin since Wednesday so we'll re-start tonight at her regular shot time. Tested her soon after we got home and she was at 212 which doesn't surprise me considering all she's been through.

So thanks so much for all the vines!!….They still contain a lot of magic!!

Yo China....as soon as you feel better, you need to get a job....Rent's on you next month!! (and the light bill too....LOL)

YAY! We’ll continue vines from here. What were this vet’s thoughts on the elevated WBC?

    Keep eating, sweet girl!

Wonderful news, and what a relief! I'm so glad she's home Chris, this has been very worrying. I hope all of you in the home can just rest and restore today and let the rest of the world slide.

He thinks it was just from her working to clear the anesthesia, some inflammation, dehydration, etc....the body does stupid things sometimes in reaction to an "insult".

They sure couldn't find any active infection anywhere, so no need to risk the side effects of an AB unless something shows later (heck, I can always drive up there again, right? o_O)

I’m so glad she’s back home!! I know she will be happier and hopefully will eat.

Gosh, I have seen BUNs much higher than that and the cat is still eating just fine. I think the female vet just doesn’t treat much CKD. It’s much more likely that the high P makes her not want to eat than the high BUN. Or, because she’s older, possibly the effects of the anesthesia are taking longer than normal. I know in humans, they say effects from anesthesia in the elderly can last up to six months.

Sending a ton more vines for her....and for you. Doing all that driving esp when you aren’t feeling 100% plus what it does to your budget.:confused::confused:

That's the crazy thing…...the vet that did the dental and felt the BUN was the reason she wouldn't eat is the only one up there that's a member of the AAFP

Well, the board certified internal medicine specialist who owns a cat only clinic and is a member of AAFP is the one that told me Gracie wasn’t diabetic and I was killing her. She also failed to properly diagnose proteinuria in a friend of mine’s cat who had CKD. So....just because they are AAFP doesn’t give me any vote of confidence.

Seriously, I am so happy that China is feeling more like herself. This is great news!
Have a good weekend and get some rest.

I wasn't sure before her hospitalization and was so concerned about her not eating that I didn't think much about it, but now I'm sure

There's something wrong with her rear legs.....she's walking funny and it seems like she's barely able to hold herself up. She does "ok" when she's on the carpeting, but has a weird "waddle" but on slick surfaces, she doesn't seem to be able to get her feet under her

They said when she was in the hospital, she just peed on the towel instead of going to the litterbox, but she's a big cat and I figured she didn't feel good and there wasn't much room, so she was just "missing" it more than anything.

Now I'm wondering if she couldn't get her rear feet up under herself well enough

    The drama continues :(:(:(

She did however, eat well and got her insulin

On no! I don't like that addendum to the title. :( Glad she's home though. I wonder if they bruised her hind legs with an IV?

IV was in her front leg(s) and I kind of noticed she was walking a little funny before she was hospitalized but at that point, the concern was getting her to eat so I wasn't sure if I was really seeing something or not

Is she feisty with the vets? She could have arthritis (what you were seeing before the dental) and being "man-handled" has flared the joints. I always give Gizmo Canna before we go in and more when we get home along with a small dose of pain meds. He has arthritis but masks it well.

Will she lay on a heating pad or hot water bottle? Of course low, low heat.

Happy yo read she is eating and got her insulin.

Jayla just told me Rico was limping after blood draw at cardiologist so perhaps blood was drawn from China’s rear leg.

No....she's the best cat they've ever seen. She allows them to do anything and just glares at them if they get too pushy.

She really is a very easy cat to deal with

A transdermal steroid caused Rusty's legs to malfunction. When we stopped it they got better. It sounds like it is some sort of drug interference? Sending vines that all will be ok by tomorrow.

I wish it was that simple, but IV's were in the front. Next time I "bother" her, I'll check to see if her back leg is shaved....it's possible they took blood from there but remember, I kind of noticed "something" off before her latest hospitalization

Chris, it is possible that it is arthritis. You said that she walks normally on carpet but not on slick surfaces. This is common in pets with arthritis. It may be that the anaesthesia is not totally out of her system as well. Hope it's nothing too serious.

Chris, I keep reading your posts - you noticed this issue BEFORE she went to the vet...hmmm... neuropathy? Obviously I have had no experience...only with a little arthritis in Luci - she doesn't care much for going down our now bare wood stairs - she preferred the carpeted stairs (that I could not keep clean!)...she would not have chosen wood and it's really slowed her down...keep us posted...I'm sorry I can't offer any advice. Sending vines and prayers to you both.:bighug::bighug::bighug:

Great news! I hope things continue to go well for you & China. :)

(months ago an Internal Specialist did a cystocentesis on Ravan ,he used an ultrasound but still had to poke him 3 times to get his bladder for the urine?,so much for specialists!. 2 tecs were holding his back legs & Ravan was very stressed out in that position & was struggling. When I brought him home he could barely walk, all wobbly I think they pulled a ligament in his hind legs? He still walks weird ,kinda like a limp. The vet denied any thing they did could of caused it ,of course they would deny it! Sorry but lately I don't have much faith in vets telling me the truth)

Before she was hospitalized on Friday......before the dental on Tuesday, she was fine. I noticed she seemed to be a little "weak" on Wednesday but was so concerned with the fact she wasn't eating, didn't think a lot about it then
