    6U is high enough.
Dose is definitely “hurting” her whereas never was a care to her before... tonight she actually walked away, from her food (ME), when I crouched down to shoot. Promises no more insulin we are just not going to go any higher. Enough is enough.

Krystina, they need what they need. You simply can NOT put a ceiling on it. Some cats get as high as 7 u and highter and then start racing down the dosing ladder. I am thinking of Emmett. This is the link for his SS Here . They got all the way to 7 units and now he is racing down the dosing ladder.

PLEASE don't stop the insulin. She is just starting to make some good progress.

Oh Krystina! Nelli's numbers look SO MUCH BETTER than they used to!!! You know this means she's hitting her stride with this dose...beautiful blues and soon I think you'll start to see some greens...that's when things really get tricky...hang on for the ride there. The first time you get that low low green...don't panic...just look at her low numbers and then you'll start to get a feel for whether or not she can afford to go down on the dosage ladder...but not until then...and then you maybe have to come back up...if you look at Luci's SS ...that's what we do...up/down, up/down, up/down...she's doing her own 'thang'...and I'm just here to make sure she's safe while she does it...

You're doing a great job with your good mamaing...keep it up...she'll let you know when the timing is right for a decrease...or maybe the other way...another increase...love seeing all those blues on her SS now - beautiful! Simply beautiful! :)

How can 1-2 drops vs 6+U make any sense. Six units 2X a day is a heck of a strong shot?
I don’t understand this- Glucose reference range 72-175 (IDEXX). If a kitty stays within this range why aren’t reductions started?

In some kitties (not most) when they get to those higher doses of Lantus, it starts to sting. A lot of people will switch to Levemir if their cats have problems with stinging because it's a different ph and not supposed to sting.

Kitties need how much they need, be it 1 unit or 10....but when they do get to 6U, we do recommend getting them tested for acromegaly and IAA

You'd have to have your vet draw some blood and send it to MSU for that testing though. They're the only place in the US that does it.

Nelli is looking so much better. Don’t stop increasing her dose as her numbers indicate! Scooter went up to 9.5 units before I got him in to good numbers. He has now EARNED reductions to 6.5 units. As others have said “they need however much they need”.

    Thank you...
Nelli is somewhere around 20 years old. I am not going to have Nelli tested for Acromegaly. Why? IAA. Why?
A senior member on this board expressed concern over the looks of Nelli large feet and head along with another member who seemed in agreement? This lead me to study, read white papers (http://zimmer-foundation.org/sch.html). I’ve educated myself fairly well on this.

I am going to have Nelli BP checked and her Dental disease addressed. Both of which we have appointments scheduled.
I will continue to graciously take advice from members on FDMB regarding dosing. I won’t pretend like I know what I’m doing... clearly at Nelli’s expense.

    I apologize
to all, who have taken an extraordinary, caring interest in Nelli- for negating all the valuable guidance I’ve gotten here. Foolishness on my part. I apologize.
I appreciate the FDMB :) :bighug:

I agree....if you were going to be in a long-term situation (like with a younger cat) it's sometimes helpful to know if you're dealing with either of the high dose conditions, but at this point, I think you're totally justified in making Nelli as comfortable as possible and doing the best you can.

We can certainly help with that!!

If she continues to act like the shots are hurting her, you could still consider changing to Levemir....it's dosed pretty much the same way as Lantus so it's not as much like "starting over from scratch".

We do want to make whatever time she has left to share as comfortable as possible!!

Thank you Chris. Thanks for understanding. You know, you were the very first member on this board who took interest in Nelli and I. I don’t forget. Thanks.

I'd just give her a small snack (teaspoon or 2) of her regular food and check again at +5
