I think the time may have come

Noah has lost a lot of weight over the past few years. He has so many medical issues it's almost a miracle he has lived this long.
He has been in the front closet all night and today, no interest in food. I gave him a little face wash and a brush which he responded well to and a little extra BUPE for his teeth.
Today Cynthia and I will have a talk between ourselves and with Noah. I don't think we're doing him any favors at this point by just keeping him going. I'm not looking for medical advice, I just wanted the people who care to know what is going on. Maybe I'm seeing something that's not there because he just crawled back into his basket with Andy. This really sucks.

Oh Dickson, I so get what you are saying. My 20 year old has days when I seriously wonder if I am just prolonging the inevitable and then he rallies. You know Noah better than anyone else and I firmly believe they do give us signs if we are open to them. We all have our bad days and in the case of our kitties, when we know they have medical problems, we are left guessing if it's "that" time. I'll be keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers, hoping Noah rallies and you can enjoy a little more time together.

 

We all care very much Dickson. I know how much you love Noah, and I'm quite sure he does too. It's obvious that you would not for a minute want to prolong any suffering for Noah, you and Cynthia are going to know when the right time is. My heart goes out to you. I will be keeping you and Noah in my thoughts and my heart.

 

I so sorry Dickson you’re right it really sucks, but I know you and Cynthia will do what’s best for Noah even if it’s painful for you. We all will be thinking of you, Cynthia and Noah and we’ll be here whenever you need us.

 

Major suckage for sure. It's the only bad part of being the parent of someone who will likely predecease you.

I'm very sorry you are now at that point of wondering, but as others have already said, we know you'll be strong and do the right thing at the right time. Big hugs to you all.

 

I'm so sorry you're facing this, Dickson. It's what we all dread and all have to get through somehow. See what Noah has to say to you... those of us who are very closely bonded with our kitties can sometimes pick up on their feelings and be guided by their response. I'm sure you'll do the right thing if it comes to it, whether that is sooner or later.

Dickson I am so sorry that Noah is doing so poorly. You and Cynthia have done so much for him and you both know him better than anyone else in the world. Have your talk and listen to whatever Noah tells you. Praying that Noah still has some zest for life left, but if he is tired and worn out he will tell you.

Mysogs Monday Dickson. Very sorry to read this from you.

 

From better days, Noah and Andrew. We called them The Twins because they were so much alike. We also called Andrew "Bright Eyes" even when he would splash most of the water out of his big bowl. There's really nothing like washing out a big bowl and filling it back up with sparkling clean water and then step in a puddle at 5 in the morning. Andrew would get in there with both feet and just splash away like a kid at the pool. This was before Noah became a recluse and lived in our walk-in closet, something we never could figure out. I couldn't even tell you now who was on the left or on the right. Andrew has been gone for a very long time.
Today Noah came out of the closet long enough for this photo. He dislikes having his picture taken, who knows why. It's been 15 years that I wouldn't trade for anything. Maybe tomorrow he'll decide he's not done yet but we are ready. Thank you everyone.

 

Oh I just never want to hear these things! I’m very sorry he is not interested.... maybe he is just too tired now. He is a miraculous fighter & you all have done so much to keep him happy & healthy. I know you are very intuitive so I have no doubt you will know. I am keeping you in my thoughts and hoping for him to rally some! He is such a beautiful boy!

Wow, Dickson, I am SO sorry. I definitely understand what you guys are going through, as you already know. It’s heartbreaking, but if you know it in your heart, then it’s right. This is, no doubt, the hardest thing about owning a pet. Hugs and love to you and Cynthia. ❤️

 

(((Dickson))), these decisions can be so very hard... It can be difficult to 'read the signs' sometimes. A kitty can seem really poorly and then rally and seem so much better. ....But if there is no improvement with regard to wanting to eat that is definitely a sign in my experience.

So sorry... I know how difficult it is. . You guys are so wonderful with these furbabies and I know they knew nothing but love with you.

 

Maybe you're lucky once in your life to have an entire family of cats in one home. Zoe and Jacob were mama and Papa. Noah, Nigel, Simon and Andrew were all born in the upstairs linen closet on a bunch of old towels over a heating pad. By the time we put up a kiddie gate it was too late, Zoe was moving them every day. Simon is seldom mentioned, he was the first to go from Cardiomyopathy and the least "yellow" of them all. He escaped the house one day when I came home from day surgery. A tech told us "He's within 500 feet of the house" and that night I found him in a neighbors garage.

I'm so sorry Dickson! Sucky is a nice way to put it. The care and concern you've shown to Noah and also to our babies is so very special and I'm heartbroken to hear about this news. Sending so much love to your household

Oh my gosh! I'm just seeing this since I wasn't online reading much today. I agree. Today is a very sucky day. I can only offer hugs and a world of understanding. You've become a dear friend and this makes my already broken heart hurt that much more.

What a beautiful family you've had Dickson. I truly hope Noah is just having a bad day and tomorrow he'll make it clear that he's not ready to go on his last adventure just yet.

But I know when the time is right, you'll take the pain of his loss upon yourself and release him.

Today has been an awful day.....but the fact that we all feel each loss so deeply just goes to prove what a special place this board is. Each kitty belongs to us all.

This is a very sad time here at FDMB. We are a family, and when one of us is hurting, we all hurt. My thoughts and prayers are with you as you help Noah through his final journey. I have just joined this forum and noticed your post. I am so sorry to hear Noah is so poorly. Whilst I don't know you or Dickson, I have just become one of a very big supportive family for which I am really truly grateful. I have been there many times with my other furbabies (8) for different reasons and all I can say is that you and your baby know when it is time (your baby will tell you). It's hard, it sucks and you think that you will never recover (you will because, given time, another little different furbaby will imprint their pawprint on your heart) but what has always kept me going at this most awful time is knowing that I have had the privilege of them being in my life, I have wholeheartedly given my love to them and they have wholeheartedly given their love to me but I have had to do what is best for them not me. So I send my sincere love and thoughts to all of you from across the pond. XXX
