Simba's curve spread was from 70 - 400. After reading 3 times in 70 - 121 the Vet has now prescribed 1 unit 1 daily in the AM. With reporting AM midday and PM readings back to Vet to see how he does. Maybe on his way to remission with a large part due to changing to only canned cat food?

You're using Lantus once a day? I'm hoping some of the experts will come on and discuss Lantus and how it works. It sounds to me that your vet may not be familiar with how Lantus works, the depot effect and the 12 hour shot times. After much studying, reading and sound words of wisdom from this group, we're on a twice daily regimen of Lantus...and shall remain so. I couldn't find your thread from yesterday (or previous). You may want to post the url to it at the top of your comments so that we can look back to see what's lead you to this point. Thanks...hope you'll reconsider that once a day advice.

I think you will find Simba’s numbers do better on two shots a day. Look at yesterday, you didn’t do a shot in the morning and he was sky high by the PM, then down lower again this morning after a shot. However, since you are following SLGS, Simba needs less than 1 unit as his dose, I would try 0.75 units, maybe even 0.5 units twice a day and see how that goes. Yes, he could be on his way to remission, but it would be much better to keep him in numbers that are easy on his pancreas to keep up that possibility. Skipping every other shot will make him feel miserable and in high numbers for a good part of the day.

As for our experience here, we have seen a very occasional cat on once a day insulin, but only kitties on very small doses that just need the odd bit of insulin help. Changing food could indeed have been a huge factor in helping Simba towards remission, but those ugly pinks and reds mean he might need a little more insulin support yet. One more thing, it’s not uncommon for vets to prescribe once a day insulin. Lantus is once a day in humans, but cats have a faster metabolism so do better onntwo shots a day.

I am in the 2 shots a day camp also... even it as little as 1/2 unit x 2... I think it is too early tell yet with him. Signed. Perplexed.

From what I can tell, being new at this myself, there is no reason to do once a day shots. I think you are on the right track by doing twice a day at lower dose.
Not sure why your vet thought remission with only a few greens!

He was NS this morning with a 66 and tonight with no midday lunch of wet food tonight was a 59, also NS. If he were not diabetic good numbers, right? Don't know what to make of this. maybe someone looking at my SS can give me a reading please?

The depot of the one unit dose can still be influencing the numbers. The depot can influence 4-6 cycles after a reduction. However, tonught’s number is very promising. I would keep skipping if his numbers remain this low. Let’s see what he does in the next day or so.

Response from ther Vet today is to continue to monitor BG 3 times daily and discontinue ALL injections entirely for a few days to see how his numbers are. Ugh. The only issue is I cannot always get home midday to take a bg reading... wonder if a late night one will do hours after dinner?

Yes, a test before bed would be just as valuable.

Did you shoot today? With reds in the picture, not sure if Simba’s pancreas is ready to go solo.
