Kitty got her Diabetes diagnosis while having pancreatitis and pneumonia (and two teeth that still needs to come out). She is now cleared of both her pneumonia and her pancreatitis! YAY!

She reacted well to insulin when she first started treatment, but when her pneumonia and pancreatitis flared up and she got really ill from it, her bloodsugar went up again. The blood sugar has become lower as her other illnesses has healed.

    I got a couple questions:

    • For how long do we want to see what numbers, before we try without insulin? I know we arent quiite there yet, but fingers crossed we will be, if it keeps going well for her :)
    • Is it possible she could have had elevated blood sugar simply from having these inflamations in her body for so long (at least since September) and not really be a "true" diabetic? She never had symptoms of diabetes, and she has responded so quickly to treatment. That combined with the circumstances when she was diagnosed makes me wonder.

It looks to me as though you're ready to try a remission trial, Carina Josephine. Fabulous numbers.... :D

You're very close, but not quite there.

We want to see at least 7 days of green numbers (with only an occasional blip to low blue) before trying the trial. She's had a few higher blues. Officially, it's 7 days of normal numbers with the majority of them between 2.8-4.4

I'd hold where you're at for a little longer and see if you can get more of her numbers down into green more of the time before trying it.

She looks very close, but let's try to give her as much support as we can to get that pancreas as healed as we can get it before trying the trial.

You'd rather have a strong remission than a fast one!

Be prepared for lows! My girl is at this stage too and is occasionally throwing a curve ball- a little nervewracking when you aren't used to it!

@majandra It looks like you have come a bit further than me and Kitty. It has gone very fast, so I do get scared of the greens some times!

@Chris & China I will wait a few days :) But still hold the same dose, right?

@Chris & China or anyone else: She is at 4.1 and it's an hour past shot time. This makes me insecure. Shoot "needlejuice" or skip? I'm sorry, I know she hasn't "earned" a reduction, but she has gone down so quick the last week (probably due to her infections clearing) that I never felt the rules for reductions "suited her".

She is already fed unfortunately, so stalling and retesting is not an option. I didn't think.

I think you'd be totally fine to just skip it tonight

Grab a +3 after feeding and see if the number comes down on it's own

Thank you for your reply! What would I do without you? :) I will skip tonight, and test right before bed. Then evaluate in the morning. She might go up a bit over night though. I must admit, there was 4-5 dry kibbles and 1 Dreamies for treats at the christmas photoshoot today. I bought her cooperation and patience ;)

Looks like she didn't need that needle dose, anyway! :woot:
And yes, when numbers are in a pattern of getting lower like this the general 'rules' may well not apply...

Keeping fingers and paws crossed for remission! (Anti-jinx!). :D

We are at shot time again. After this night's 3.8 (at +19) I'm still hesitant to give. I know we might not be there yet, but I'm tempted to try without for one more cycle.
