Oh, poor boy! I don't have any experience with anything like this in cats, but I'd like to tag in Ana (@Ana & Frosty (GA) ) because her angel kitty Frosty had some skin tearing issues. I am NOT saying that what Frosty had is the same as Ron, but Ana can probably tell you if she has ideas based on looking at the pictures.

Best of luck, and our prayers to you.

Hey there. So sorry to hear your kitty is having skin problems. Could you please post pictures of your kitty standing up and turned to the side so I can take a look at his over-all body habitus?

As the other members here already stated, any time a cat with diabetes has large wounds without any obvious trauma, we worry about Cushing's disease. My Frosty started having mysterious skin tears similar to your kitty about 4 months after I adopted him (he was 9 years old). Although it's difficult to tell from the look of the tears whether or not it's Cushing's, the history and the over-all cat appearance can give us clues. Frosty would groom and literally pull out skin with his fur. His wounds were pretty large, although I did not take any pictures of them because it was too upsetting for me.

Other things that can be notable about a kitty with Cushing's: thinning fur, "unkept appearance" of the fur (as if the kitty hasn't groomed or been brushed in a long time," and a pot belly with skinny arms/legs/back/shoulders. Here are some pictures of Frosty's appearance before he was treated with Vetoryl (a medication for Cushing's).

The "needle-like" fur is a pretty common finding in kitties wit Cushing's.

I am also posting more links to the Cushing's forum where I recently replied to someone else's post about possible Cushing's so you can read:

My old posts about Frosty can be seen here (scroll down, they are from May): http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/forums/acromegaly-iaa-cushings-cats.12/

What I recommend is bringing up the possibility of Cushing's to your vet, and asking about the ACTH stimulation test to see if he has it. There are other ways to test as well, such as a urine test. Reading about it in Tuxedo Mom's post: http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/vet-is-stumped-but-considering-cushings.210054/

Also, I recommend buying him a onesie to put on him to protect him from grooming and pulling out more skin and fur. Here is the one I used for Frosty: https://keepdoggiesafe.com/products...aa-rI18vYd9qyA4nN0rY6qmAHGeGEosQaAnWWEALw_wcB
Here is a video of how to convert a regular baby onesie to a cat onesie:

Please keep us updated and let us know how your baby is doing. Again, I am sorry you're going through this. Unfortunately I have been there, as have a few others here on FDMB. @Tuxedo Mom also had a kitty with Cushing's, and @Rardito is currently the only member with a kitty who is living with Cushing's from this site as far as I know. Their kitties did not have skin tears.

Wow, this article was written just as Frosty was diagnosed with Cushing's. This would have been helpful to see when we were doing the work-up but obviously it wasn't out yet. I guess they are seeing more and more cats with this disease. This makes me hopeful about early diagnosis and treatment. <3

Omg, poor baby!!! :( These pictures are difficult for me to look at, and it reminds me a lot of what was happening with Frosty. I looked through about half of them. The 5th picture from the top looks exactly like Frosty’s skin tears. :(

It’s difficult to tell whether your cat has the “needle-like” or “unkept” fur appearance because I am not familiar with your cat’s breed. Did he use to be fluffier before these issues started? Was his fur shinier in the past, and now looks more dull? Those are some characteristics of Cushing’s.

Please post updates on your baby. After Frosty was diagnosed with Cushing’s, he was started on Vetoryl medication which helped his skin heal. I also highly recommend putting your kitty in a onesie ASAP to prevent him accidentally doing more damage to his skin while grooming, etc.

I don’t want to carry on my cat to the vet
He turns very agressive and nervious and the vet have to use gloves and tower with him with the consequence cat falls out of stretcher and the injuries increase the size. The vet told me the only solution would be sedate the cat but it is dangerous because he weights too little.
If my cat dies it will be at home with peace and love and any suffering
Lately he pees sometimes ( not all days) out of sandbox but the glucose values never reach 200 and they are between 130 to 160.
I told to the vet body suit and he said that injuries should be uncovered
He always has been very sensitive skin and a few years ago before diabethes we cut his hair a couple of times
Please check cat warst my cat.

I truly am sorry for your kitty's troubles, @Ronnon. It certainly sounds like you are in a difficult position. Ana has a (human) medical background and did better than anyone possibly could have with Frosty, so I'd trust her opinion and experience completely, but of course you have to take your cat's temperament into account as well.

And thanks for looking, @Ana & Frosty (GA) , I knew it would be difficult for you, but figured you would be the best resource since Cushing's is the first thing that came to mind for me.

    Our prayers are with you.

So sorry to see your kitty dealing with such terrible skin tears. Anna has already given you some good information on Cushing's. The skin tears you show would indeed be a major red flag for Cushing's. My Tuxie had not progressed to this point before he passed away, but had very thin skin, with bruising. He had his belly shaved for an ultrasound and the hair never grew back after over 2 years. The one test that you can do to get an indication whether Cushing's is a possibility is the UCCR ( Urine cortisol creatinine ratio) test. All this involves is collecting a sample of urine AT HOME (so there is no stress involved) and having your vet send it to an outside lab that does this test...such as IDEXX. Although it cannot distinguish between adrenal based or pituitary based it can give an indication of whether the cortisol is too high, which would indicate Cushing's. With Tuxie I did not pursue the vetoryl treatment because of his extreme anxiety over going to the vet. Although it would be preferable to have different testing done at least this can give an indication of whether the skin tears are possibly caused by Cushing's.

Both Anna and another member whose kitty had Cushing's with bad skin tears used the onesies to protect the skin from further damage. With Cushing;s the skin is so fragile in some cases that even rough petting can cause the skin to tear further and the onsie gives some protection from more tearing and prevent your kitty trying to groom these spots.

My prayers go out to you. :bighug:
