    Flapjack's spreadsheet

Hello! I don't get here much these days, the kitties keep me busy! We have a new guy in the house trying to get control of his BGs. He has been in the shelter for a couple months without much luck on getting him under control. Finding him to be a HUGE bouncer, quick down and back up swings. Any suggestions to knock him out of the cycle?

Flapjack history - he came from the pound towards the end of December. He is 7yrs, was pretty underweight, but is looking pretty healthy now. The vet started him at 2U, he quickly dropped and the shelter dropped him to 1U, he found 37 one day while I was there and I suggested they try 0.5U. They maintained the 0.5U and he flattened out in the 200s (preshot tests mostly). When the tech texted me that he was staying in the 300s, I recommended he go back up and maybe into foster to get a better picture of what he is doing I only have the preshot tests that came with him on his med log, there is more history that I don't have, I entered what I have.

We took him along with another diet controlled diabetic into foster so he shares a room with Posh. They seem to get along well and both seem less stressed.

I was hoping the bounces would settle down, but he seems to be running shorting bounce cycles instead. Any suggestions? He eats Fancy Feast, Chicken or Turkey and Giblets, one can at shot time, 1/2 can when I do his out-the-door or to-bed test.

    Look at this handsome boy!

Hi Melanie. Lucky Posh and Flapjack being at your home. It looks like Flapjack loves to dive early in the cycle. Any chance of spreading out his early cycle meals a bit? At what time is his second meal now?

It varies depending on how late I am heading to work or Jason is going to bed. Since it is tax season, it is hard to push it too late. Its been running anywhere from +3 to +5. We've moved shots up as early as possible to give more time, but can't get them earlier because hubby can't get home any earlier for evening shots. They were fed just at shot time at the shelter so one of my hopes is that the extra meal would help. They are CRAZY for food so they inhale whatever they get. I am not sure how well feeders would work with the two in there together. Posh came from a hoarder and can be nervous, she might be afraid of a feeder.

Maybe take some of his preshot meal and move it up to a +2 or +1.5 so he has fresh carbs on board for onset?

    They are adorable!!

My first thought was maybe some food that is a bit higher in carbs would buffer the drops if you can't spread out the food. If they are as crazy for food as you said, I suspect that Posh would get used to a feeder pretty quickly.

What lucky kitties to be at your house! My first thought was like Wendy's: to spread out the preshot 1 can into 2 smaller meals. But with your schedules that might not be practical.
    Love the pictures!

Thanks everyone! We will see how much we can manipulate their feedings. I looked for the 3rd feeder today and couldn't find it  I know we have 3 because we used 3 trays feeding Manny and Tinkerbell so we'd always have a clean tray to fill. We lost Tinkerbell to cancer last week :(, so we have her feeder free and if I can find the other one... We do lose the benefits of using food for socializing Posh more if we go to feeders. She is doing amazing with us right now because she wants food out of us, at the shelter all she would do is try to bite me when I tried to pet her .

They are both adorable - grey and orange, my two favorite colors!

Food is also my go-to for socializing scared cats and it is probably one of the primary reasons that Mandarin has become so much more trusting of me. Could you add the feeders for some of the meals and then still feed her in her regular bowl for the other meals? That might be a good compromise.

So sorry to hear that Tinkerbell has journeyed to the Bridge. She'll be "in good paws" there.
Much sympathy to you, DH, and the fur gang.
