Hi! My name is Shannon. I live with 3 cats, Binx & Boo, who are mine, and TJ, who is my roommates. Binx, was diagnosed on Friday the 1st. He was started on 1U of Vetsulin twice a day. We are currently switching his food over to the Glycobalance from Royal Canin. I'm really here to gain any and all knowledge I can to give him the best care possible. If you guys have any advice for me I am open to any and all!

I am mostly interested to hear how any of you deal with diet. I am wondering about grain-free food and if I could switch him to that instead of having to go with prescription food? Or is the best thing to go with the prescription food? Thank you in advance for any advice or thoughts on this!

Pretty kitties! OMGosh, I just wanna snuggle! You do not need the prescription diet, it's expensive and mostly too high in carbs for our sugar cats..any cats. If you are in the U.S. many of us feed Fancy Feast classics or Friskies pates (no sauces or gravies). There are many other brands that are good and low carb, you can look at the food chart HERE. www.catinfo.org is a great feline nutrition source.
I responded to your Introduction post, and I wanted to add that it would be a good idea to also take a look at the Vetsulin forum, The Beginner's Guide to Vetsulin. Lots of pertinent and important info there, and experienced members who can help with questions and concerns.

Glycobalance is 14% carb which is too high. Most of us feed fancy feast classic or Friskies pate foods. I feed fancy feast classic or tikicat. I have a link to the food chart in my signature.
