? Am I getting ahead of myself? How close is Nikko to an OTJ trial?

Hi all - little Nikko continues to put on weight (he was very underweight at diagnoses) and seems to be thriving on his wet food.

Some of you may remember (previous thread) I was having great difficulty shooting twice a day. He's on the SLGS method and I work full time, live alone and have some health issues I am dealing with. Not trying to make excuses! But delaying the shot is not always an option and I was terrified of him dropping too low while I wasn't around.

I need to get some more readings this week, I can't figure out his nadirs with the limited tests I did this week, unfortunately. Will do a full curve Sunday. Tonight I don't think I can shoot as he's at a 65 and yelling at me for food. I'm down to 1 drop which feels like nothing but allowed me to shoot twice a day for a bit there... not tonight though. Any input welcome!

Also, was him and his sister's 10th birthday last monday so I had them celebrating in style.

yikes, I am reading other threads and think I have been shooting him too low. Luckily I've been around to monitor these past couple days but yes, definitely seeking advice on if it's time for an OTJ trial with these numbers.

    Nikko has beautiful numbers!!!!
How are you measuring the drop of insulin? Is a "drop" actually less than .05u?
He looks like he's very close to a trial but we do like to see the kitty in solid greens!

Hi Judy! So I depress the syringe - pushing it as far as it will go before I insert into the insulin vial. I just take my thumb off the syringe enough for it to "relax" and it sucks up 1 drop. I tested this a couple times, removing and doing a false "shoot" into the air. 1 little bead/drop of insulin hangs off the needle.

I am having trouble shooting because his PS #'s are almost consistently under 90.

Ok I don't use SLGS but I believe it says to lower the dose if kitty falls below 90. You're shooting the lowest dose now so the next step would be an OTJ trial.
I'm going to tag @Wendy&Neko here to see what she thinks!

Nikko's cycles are so flat.....just what we like to see!

Shooting "too low" is relative. Keep in mind, those following TR will shoot anything above 50. That said, SLGS is not the same.

I'd be more comfortable with an OTJ trial if I had a better sense of what more of the mid-cycle numbers looked like. Are you able to get a few more spot checks? There are days when all you have are an AMPS and PMPS. We want a trial to be a success!! A bit more data would be good insurance.

Hey there! Are you using a human meter or pet meter?
