Newly diagnosed diabetic. Doing the first shot after the vet receives supplies.

Hi and welcome Mark and Harvey. I'm glad you found the board so that you can take advantage of the wealth of information about treating feline diabetes, and meet up with a very supportive community.
It would be great to know a bit more about Harvey, for example what were his symptoms? Sometimes cats lose weight before the diabetes diagnosis, drink and pee excessively and still want lots more food, even though they are losing weight. Has the vet told you what type of insulin Harvey will get and have you received information about a proper diet for a sugar cat, or about testing the blood sugar at home?

There are three basic components of effective diabetic treatment: proper diet, insulin therapy and testing the blood sugar at home. We can help provide information about a low carb diet, the insulin you will be using and how to home test to keep Harvey safe.

Since you are going to be taking care of Harvey, i.e. injecting insulin, I suggest you revisit the Home Page and read through the Getting Started and the Education sections on the right side of the page. It's good basic beginner information that lays a foundation for the next steps you will take.

Please let us know how we can be of help going forward. Take a look around on the different forums on the board, see how members are posting, and what they are posting about. General health questions usually are posted in the Main Health forum, then more specific insulin related issues in appropriate Insulin Support Groups . We have a Community and Off Topic forum for non feline health related topics, where we can talk about anything, and have a bit of fun.
You may want to visit the Announcements & How to use the FDMB area so that navigating will be easier:

    Best wishes going forward :cat:
