Mala was diagnosed in stage 2 CKD in June of last year, and started on a prescription renal food. Bad idea. In September, we had new blood work done, and found that while her renal numbers were reduced, she was diabetic again. The renal food listed as above 30% carbs.

Mala started on Weruva Chicken Frickazee and insulin in September. After a long 3+ months, she went OTJ for the third time in January of this year.

The food she had been eating listed as around 170 mg phosphorus. We took labs again in early April. While Mala had shown a phos level of 4.8 mg in September, she was up to 5.5 in April. She is now getting a daily dose of sub-q fluids between 60 and 100 ml.

We changed her food. I started feeding her Weruva Steak frites and TikiCat Napoli Grill.

The former is listed as 6% carbs and around 118 mg phosphates; the latter is 0% carbs and 149 mg phosphates.

I have not had her labs done recently, but we've been continuing to test her glucose levels roughly 2X per week. Most days, she's in the solid greens. Lately, her numbers have been rising. I have an updated chart on her bgs below.

The last several times we've done checks on her glucose, she's been above 100. Today, about 2 hours after breakfast, she was nearly 200.

We have discussed our options, and for now, have decided that Mala will be limited to eating only the 0 carb Tiki Cat until we can see better numbers. We're also going to test her at least daily.

Is Mala showing signs that she's coming out of remission? We know we were really lucky to get her off the juice for a third time, particularly as she's going to be 20 this year.

Any advice or thoughts are welcome.

Sorry to hear that Mala is having issues again.

Have no suggestion outside doing what you are thinking and limiting the carbs and see how she does.

Thanks Tracey. Today is a little better. We're checking her roughly 3-4 hours after her breakfast, and before her second breakfast. Yesterday, it was 119; today, 102. She's now eating only the 0 carb food. She loves it, and loves being the cat who gets special food in a special location. She's bouncing between mid-110s and right around 100.

    We're now testing her daily.
