5/28 and 5/29 at ER; 5/30 Felix is home from ER!

Felix is at the ER with pleural effusion; the cause is not diagnosed yet. He's getting a chest tap shortly and is expected to spend the night in an oxygen cage.

I've come home to take care of the other kitties, etc., then I'll go back to the ER. They're okay with me managing his diabetes while he's there, so I'll give him his shot and tests as necessary (it's about AM+9 right now). Glad he's running a bit high today, so I'm not fretting over that, too, especially with sedation. I mean his sedation.

Had to take a few minutes to post, because I'm a believer in the FDMB healing vines!

Thank you so much, everyone. It really does help me, and I've been telling Felix how cared about he is. I know he's where he needs to be, but it's a bright, loud, chaotic place, and Felix is a 'fraidy-cat even at home, so it's hard to see him there, especially since stress isn't good for his condition. He'll stay probably another 24-48 hours.

An ER vet called at 7:30 this morning to say he was doing better, but when I got there at 10:00, the fluid had built up again and they're going to do another thoracentesis. They had him on IV fluids and suspect that has contributed. They don't have a cardiologist available to do an echocardiogram as soon as they'd like, but heart failure is suspected and they're treating it like that for now. Lymphoma is another possibility; their analysis of the fluid last night was inconclusive and it has been sent out-of-house for more info.

I'm so used to thinking of time in regard to Felix as PS, +1, etc., but they will have him on R today instead of Lantus, so I'm disoriented. But even if I'm not oriented to R, they are, whereas I've seen various evidence that they don't fully grasp how Lantus works. I will still go in to do most of his tests, though. They say Felix seems better when I'm there, plus they charge 20-30 dollars per test (every four hours) but my test strips cost 20-30 cents a piece. That savings sounds like a drop in the bucket compared with what the whole bill will be, but I figure it will buy a lot of ramen.

 

I'm sure Felix loves having you come in and test. I hope you get some answers soon and he starts doing better again. Sending prayers.

Hugs to you Susan. I know how scary those taps can be. Neko’s fluid build up was caused by giving fluids too. I hope they can get to the bottom of the issue soon. Scritches to Felix when you next visit, and tons of healing vines on their way.

Do they have a cardiologist? Have they done an echo? Vines and prayers.

 

They do have a cardiologist--two actually, but one is on maternity leave and they didn't know how long it would take for the other to be able to see Felix. But he did have an echo today, and restrictive cardiomyopathy was confirmed and a blood clot in his heart.

There's more to say, but right now I'm going back to see him for a bit, and then I need to sleep. But I have to thank everyone again. I read every comment to him during my last visit, and he purred.
