prior thread May 31, the wisdom in the comments there hit home and I appreciate the advice :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Felix's BG is still running high, and I'm trying to decide whether to increase tonight or wait until tomorrow night. This dose was really active just a few days ago, and his depot is probably still messed up from one or more missed shots since then. Plus I have to be away tomorrow for my stepdad's sleep study and don't want Felix getting too busy then. The vet said to continue with his current dose and didn't say that his new meds would affect his BG, but I'm reading that Lasix could do so.

I think he feels pretty good but not 100%. I'm hoping that once his BG is down and once he's recovered physically and psychologically from his hospital stay that he'll feel even better. He mutters little complaint meows, but he also snuggles and purrs and hangs out in his window seat; he eats pretty well.

I'll keep this in mind. We have hot, humid summers, too. At the hospital, Felix wanted to have his bare belly against the cool tile floor, and for a couple days his skin looked red, especially his ears and where they'd shaved his arms, so I wondered if he was susceptible to overheating. He's a healthy-looking pink now. Sweet pink tummy velvet:kiss:.

Well, I just did a search and I'm actually surprised. I didn't realize that Lasix can raise BG. (I work with lots of CHF patients who are diabetic and apparently it can do the same thing in humans and no one has ever mentioned this as being a side effect of Lasix.)

I think it's up to you if you wait before raising Felix's dose. If you really think you gave a fur shot on 5/30, at least with TR, you would re-start the cycle count with a fur shot and that would put you at tomorrow for an increase.

Dear Susan, I've just been catching up with the board and have read your recent posts. Chef Felix is a strong kitty, indeed. I can only imagine how stressful this diagnosis must be for you, but never lose sight of the fact that our kitties are tough. As others have said: one day at a time. This is what we did with Rusty and he rallied so many times during the last year of his life.

Thinking of you and our creative Chef Felix. His Kitchen Krew will undoubtedly brew up some chicken soup to help him feel better and better. Sending a bouquet garni of healing herbs and tasty vines to your boy.

    :bighug::bighug::bighug:s and scritches,

Ugh, he just vomited, another possible side effect of his meds. It seemed to come on suddenly and he had a nibble of food afterward, so hopefully that means he's not generally nauseated.

Thank you, Sienne. I'm glad you say you haven't encountered that--it would be nice to not have to chase his numbers around even more because of his meds. I only suspect a fur shot because of the shape of the cycle, but it could be that those black-to-yellow drops are making him bouncy. If he was high and flat, I think I'd increase sooner, but since he's getting some downward momentum, I'll probably wait.

Auntie Ella, you always know what to say to get me feeline better. Although I'm interested in my kittycatfood, I'm wanting my usually frequent, small meals to be smaller and so Momma wants them to be frequenter. We're both enjoying the time-honored tradition of Momma Holds the Bowl, and we think of Rusty every time we do it. The bouquet garni is very pretty and fragrant, thank you.
    Purrs,

I can’t remember the exact details now, but @Doodles & Karen had an issue with Lasix and BG. I think it was with the injected format? Neko was on liquid form of Lasix for a while and it did not impact her BG. Neko was also on Plavix and Vetmedin. I did notice that when I added a new med to her list, it seemed to take her a couple of days of higher numbers before her body adjusted to it and the numbers went back down.

I agree with Sienne that waiting a couple more cycles in case of the FS would be best. Especially if you cannot monitor tomorrow.

Healing vines still going to Felix. :bighug:

I'll look back for Karen's posts about it. Felix's three meds are all pills. I felt dread when they told me that and I asked about other forms, but he's been easier to pill than I expected.

I found at least one study that clopidogrel/Plavix improves glucose (in diabetic humans), so maybe that'll help even things out.

Thank you, Auntie Ella. You were right! Some nice mild chicken soup has arrived from the Kitchen. I set some aside in case my tummy gets iffy, but I had Momma simmer the rest with my pretty bouquet garni (it's not as pretty now) to pique my appy, and I enjoyed it with croutons.

@Susan&Felix I'm so very sorry about the RCM dx. :bighug::bighug::bighug: Doodles had advanced HCM and recurring CHF. We started with injectable Lasix and it significantly raised his BG's. Lasix does have a moderate interaction with insulin (Lantus/ Levemir) and can increase BG's but it doesn't in all cats/ humans. We did switch to the pill form and it did level out some. With recurring CHF I was able to determine that his BG's would run higher when his resting heart rate was up. I starred at him constantly, recorded everything in his SS. He ended up on 30mg Lasix twice a day and sometimes I had to dose 30mg every 8 hours for 3 days to knock down the fluid under close direction and communication with is cardiologist. Obviously only follow the directions given to you by Felix's vet/ cardiologist.

In respect to dosing and higher bg's. Just follow the protocol. His diabetes and other concerns such as kidney's are secondary to his heart. Heart issues trump everything else. Try to concentrate on how he's feeling....eating, purring, etc.. Love on him, spoil him and try not to be overly concerned about his #'s. Easier said then done, been there done that but it's important. Keeping you in my thoughts and give Felix extra scritches for me.
