07/17 Condo - A brief encounter with sharkies Mowgli had an.... interesting night last night, I guess he felt like a little skydiving would be fun ... into a shark tank Everything worked out well and we are in our typical cycle of low evenings = bouncy mornings. Because he just had a reduction yesterday and he is bouncing this morning, I decided not to do a back to back reduction. We shot 1u I'm going to try managing these situations by using friskies pates in the evenings for Mowgli's supper, and FF for morning feed, I hope it makes a difference. Thanks again for all the support and advice last night, his low didn't last long but after Tuckers experience yesterday I was really so glad to have you all there for my first "below 50" reading Hope everyone has a great day! if you're looking for me, I will be the one hooked up to the caffeine drip
Oh Amanda, it was your first low low, well extra well done especially straight after little Tuckers crisis. You must have been scared, I know I would have been. Extra hugs
You did such a great job Amanda, so calm and collected! I will be joining you at the caffeine drip cuz I was up late last night catching up on work Have a great day and let the coffee flow freely
I'm glad Mowgli came back up for you last night. I hope your day goes quickly and you can stay awake.
Oh Mowgli - what's with all the drama? U eatin ur fuds? (that's from Luci)...she's nosy... Glad it all worked out and you caught him in the act (chasing those sharks)...scary ain't it? Hope he'll level off today and you can get some sleep soon. Have a great day Amanda!
will be interesting to see if it works for you the way it has for me -- wishing you fortune and fortitude ...
Hope the new food plan works for you ! GREAT job last night! I love that you were doing food prep during the process...thats some impressive multitasking! Wishing you a FAST day so you can hopefully get some sleep tonight!
Thanks so much Dierdre, I tried to keep my cool but of course I couldn't help but think of Tucker when I hit 45 at +2.5! ESPECIALLY since this was, as you said, my first "low low" I think @CandyH and Catcat was right when she said it reminded her of vetsulin... I suspect that Mowgli's AM dose must have lasted longer than usual causing an overlap of dose when his PM dose hit onset... if that makes sense. Thanks for popping over to Mowgli's 07/17 post with your encouraging words, your hope for a bounce came true
Thanks Sonia, and thanks for peeking in from time to time last night, I really appreciate it Caffeine is starting to settle in and I am starting to feel a little more human
Thanks Armish! I've learnt so much in the past 4.5 months here, but this was a first for me so I was so happy to have so much support. I don't think i could have kept my cool without it Yes! free flowing coffee... I want all of it!! but since you also had a late night I will share
Thanks Carla!! I tried to have a nap on the bus this morning but it didn't work out, I just finished my first GIANT mug of coffee and I am gearing up for one more I hope I can stay awake today too
I think Luci's first question is totally valid, I often find leftover food in Mowgli's bowl when I get home from work, and sometimes he takes a bit to eat after his shot, so I think I am feeding him too much during the day and maybe not enough at night. Today I decreased his FF from 1.5 cans to just 1 can so hopefully he will have a better appetite tonight right at shot time. I am SO thankful that I got a +2... the funny thing is, I was thinking to myself... because of Wednesday night that actually I should get a +1, but then I had to run some errands so settled on a +2. If I would have followed my instincts then maybe we could have had a nice green surf instead of whatever the heck checkmark cycle he was showing me last night Ah well... live and learn I wonder if he will level off, I hope so, It's really nice that he is having these green nights but it's rough that every day he's bouncing. I'm thankful at least that he typically clears bounces quickly. Thanks for your support yesterday and today
Thanks so much Amy. I really appreciate your comments. I am so relieved that it went the way that it did We don't have Bang but I do have coffee on board! I will be hammering it all morning . I hope it works too! I want to prevent this dive and bounce pattern Mowgli's got going on here I am having friends over for dinner tonight so I HAD to get those burgers made Have a great day
If I could personally FedEx you Bang, I would ! My heart sank reading the thread, but at the same time, I was like "she's GOT this!"...SO awesome! And hey, why not just Martha Stewart it up while you are at it & make some fabulous burgers ! My friends would be eating whatever I could order in the next day, so again, you ROCK!! All I know is they better REALLY appreciate those burgers Enjoy your dinner with friends & have a fantastic day as well...albeit a sleepy fantastic day!
You and Mowgli had some night. I am so glad that you had everything under control and that you had wonderful people here to get you through this scary experience. After reading about Tucker's ordeal yesterday, I had that on my mind all night and also while I was trying to sleep. Too too scary!! Hope Mowgli clears this bounce soon.
Thanks Debra, it was "some night" for sure!! While Tuckers Hypo was just SO SO scary (totally agree, I was reading along hardly able to breathe) Having read over his condo really helped my focus last night, I kind of benefited from Patty's experience. I really hope he clears his bounce quickly, and I hope trying Friskies at night will kind of slow his initial drops, we will try it out tonight
I was trying to follow your feeding through the cycles. Do you have a set amount at each AMPS and PMPS? Also do you feed through +1, +2 and +3 ? I followed what others told me to do......I try to give the bulk of Yo's food at PS's but he doesn't want to eat that much so I split the bulk between PS and +1. Then I give him the rest of his food at +2, +3 and +4. This helps with the usual drop at +2 through +4.........(Only a suggestion and one that you may already know)
I haven't really used a method for a set amount, I free feed both of my cats so I think that is adding to the problem. I have read a lot about timed feeders and feeders with chips but honestly I'm not very open minded to it at the moment. Maybe I should give it more consideration though. I just feel like... if my cats are hungry, they should eat. Neither of them are gorgers, they are more grazers, so while I cant really track the amount that they're eating during the day (or who is eating what amount) I feel ok with it. If i got timed feeders I would also have to buy two with chips which I also don't really feel like paying for My cat's don't have chips, and I dont like them to wear collars because of an event with nyx where I had found her collar caught on a fan leg and the fan was dragged across the room ... luckily she was able to get the collar off but it kind of made me think twice about leaving the cats at home with collars
One easier option is a Nest Cam with a Nest Aware subscription. You just plug it in & you have an APP. You can set up a colored "zone" & then go back (by having the Nest Aware 5 day subscription) & see when they ate & what they ate for the most part ! So, for example, I created a "food zone" that is red & a dot only shows up in the timeline where someone entered that zone. So we just zoom through the timeline & see if he's eaten & when. Based on how close the camera is, you are able to see how much is gone as well if you want to!
I live for my cameras. Multi cat household so I also have one for the litter room so I can monitor who I need to when something comes up! We get up each day & my husband checks the litter room history before scooping & I check the food zones so I know what happened while I was sleeping. It actually helped me catch a few of Ts lower #s (they weren't technically low, but they were low to his body at the time). I saw the history & if I saw a pattern, I set an alarm for the next time to grab a BG just to see if he was essentially feeding his own curve.
PMPS 283, Mowgli had an excellent appetite and had a good little feed. Let’s see how things go from here
You did real good last night with that first visit to the sharks. Mowgli just wanted to see if you were paying attention. He is starting off nice and tame tonight.
