Yesterday was uneventful. But I didn’t expect to see this much action so soon. What number can I shoot at? Stick with the 1.75 if I do?????

Good morning to you both :)!
As I recall, I’ve been in a very similar state with Nelli... 57 is ok to shoot the 1.75U- will you be able to monitor her closely, if necessary, today?
I agree with (forgot who o_O), mentioned how much of an impact procedure at vet has made on her need for insulin now !:bighug:
You are doin’ a great job with Alice, darlin’ :bighug:

(Forgot who o_O) is my life! Lol!

So every few cycles, she dives. I’m wondering if I should stick to 1.75u, I suspect she is about to dive again with the depot she has....?

I saw @Jill & Alex (GA) comment to someone else about how cancer can affect long-term diabetics and their insulin needs and can make them not need any....... this is sort of the opposite in that her tumor removal has made a huge impact!!!!

I would shoot and get a 1+ to make sure you're not getting any low lows....monitor closely this morning...but that's me...I like to try to keep Luci in the good numbers when and if she gets there...and only if she's eating well.

@Sue and Luci you're right, better to try to stay in the good numbers!!!

20 minute stall only brought her up 1 point.

So I shot 1.75 but really it was probably more like 1.65 when I measured it out..... I just went with it instead of re-drawing, today. She is eating her LC and I will test in an hour.

I think she knows this is my driving-in-the-morning day off and I could have gone back to bed for it. Her shot is now late by about an hour too. Now to dance the dose back up to a normal time..... :p

Maybe change your subject line to "BG xx, stalling, please help"

I'm sure some with greater experience will respond, but my understanding is you can continue to stall & keep checking OR yesterday, I had a 99 AMPS & since I follow SLGS, I chose to feed, test in 2hrs & decide. On SLGS your others options are 1) give nothing or 2) give 10-25% of the dose.

Staying in good #s is good, but safety is always the most important thing!

I already shot. We use TR, but ever since her tumor was removed a month and 6 days ago.... she has dropped from 4u to 1.75u.
I suspect she probably didn’t eat as much over night, though, and feeding might help her surf the day plus we can monitor and I have MC at the ready. So on the bright side, she will be safe no matter what.
I’ve been taking bigger risks in what numbers I shoot at because of somewhat recent DKA, in part.

Thats SO great :)!! Makes total sense & you know your cat! My cat took a dive one evening recently--not into hypo but it was enough to make me be more conservative for now. I'm sure as I see he doesn't do that anymore, I will become more comfortable (like you) to be a little more aggressive

Your cat is so gorgeous and I just have to say that!!!

Also.... I remember when the blues would send me into a fright!!! Then the good greens would..... now I see Alice below 50 and I’m just like.... again...? Really? :p

Know thy cat makes a huge difference, but that learning process cannot be rushed, as it just takes the unfolding of time to teach us what our sweet cats need.

+1 is 74! Food was definitely the answer...... for now! Mwahaha. (That’s what I imagine her diabetes is saying. Later it’s going to mess with me and also if she doesn’t earn another reduction this cycle then I expect it next cycle.)

Hourly testing or can I sit well and check at +3 since she has eaten over half a can of 5% friskies?

Good job shooting. I'd get a +2 test to get an idea of what she's going to do today. With all that food if she's flat or dropped you'll know you really need to monitor.

Thank you! Alice is beautiful as well!! I love her markings....looks like she has a mask as well?

I am definitely taking the time, especially with changes being made, to see exactly how each change effects T & his BG. Slow & steady !

    +2.25 is 49!!! Sigh!

Plus I had to pull her from under the bed, which alarmed me when she wouldn’t come out, she is responsive but she only goes under there when she doesn’t feel well ish. Otherwise she would be on the mattress.

So I gave her a spoon of MC and let her lick the gravy smeared lid. She is very excited and vocal about it.

I will be reducing to 1.5u next dose. She’s clearly still on that reduction mission of hers.

She wants more food and I don’t want to tell her no! Whaaaa! :arghh:

She’s made it back up into the blues, thanks little miss! I can tell she feels a little better too, I think. I also got in an extra nap and had the human take over for a little bit.

I need to update the SS...... in a little bit.

I have a bit of a thought/theory on this...it could be way off base and I don't have anything to back it up, but one of the symptoms of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome in humans is insulin resistance. Since Alice had cysts on her ovaries, maybe those cysts were contributing to her insulin needs, and now that they are gone, her body is adjusting. Like I said, just a theory....I did a very quick search on it and didn't see anything about it in cats, but I'm guessing it's not something that would be very common in cats. It could be something to ask your vet about, though. She IS keeping you on your toes!

    This is a fascinating theory!

What I also find interesting is how her need keeps decreasing, but still in little steps. It really illustrates how important quarter unit dosing is, because if she misses a dose before she is ready to go down she shoots back up higher, but she is also still very quickly making reductions. Do their pancreases heal that quickly when they are no longer agitated by whatever else?? I wish I knew more science things!

PMPS is 191, dose reduced to 1.5u!!! It is starting to feel so low now that it’s only 3/8th of her pre-surgery dose, only three little lines....!!!!

She’s happily hanging out on the bed having a bath right now. I’m hoping she gives me a good break tonight so I can take a much needed medicine that may cause some extra drowsiness...... will see in +2.

We have seen some kitties fly down the dosing ladder after dentals, but of course every kitty is different.

I always get a kick out of it when you refer to "the human" as if you might be some other species (maybe not a native earthling at all?). I'm glad you have a human who can help you test Alice and sing her the birthday song complete with extra meows.

I'm so excited to see that Alice is continuing her journey down the dosing ladder, but I am not surprised. I really think that surgery changed things. Hang in there, Cassandra. This is all good!
