you have to remember, it's summer and we are fairly far north -- dawn is early and cats know it -- especially with those big skylights up here in the loft

no little shrew deposited at the foot of the bed this morning -- grass looks damp with dew, Catcat may have decided not to hunt today

Hope Catcat has some smooth sailing today! Ah, those early wake-ups. Perry got us up at 5 this morning, and we're a hair south of you ... it was still dark. But he had help from his civvie pal Chloe, who came in to lick my nose five minutes before Perry appeared.

Nice to see the +3 in Blue last night and so quickly after the NS!

I wonder if you'd be interested in taking +1 and +1.5 test in some cycles - alternative to the regular tests at +2 and +3.
I have some vague suspicion that the food spike - or lack thereof could be even better indicator of an active cycle than the +2.

Why: That +3 last night is good # but still it was 100 points lower than the PS and we do not know how fast Catcat got there. If by losing equal points over 3 hours is one thing and =smooth curve but he could have dropped 50 points by +1 and then another 50 by +1.5 and that'd be too fast and could trigger bouncing = Pink AMPS.

    Does it make any sense?

it certainly does, and that's one reason I feed a substantial meal at +3 at night, often choosing to feed Friskies rather than FF, 4Health or Blue Wilderness (his usual rotation)

not entirely sure that the pink AMPS wasn't due to not-enough-overlap (insulin running out before morning) -- that substantial meal at night may be shortening the duration even if it's keeping him at a slightly higher BG then .. if so, it's a balancing act

+1.5 might be better than +1 since sometimes he's still licking up the remnants at +1 .. will try it and see where we go -- he tends to fight more if the tests are closer together .. on the other hand, since I feed him a spoonful with test, it will just prolong the meal, means +3 will probably still show food influence

I'd agree entirely if you fed it at or after the +6.
The +3 - being so early is another thing and totally acceptable. But ECID.
I should clarify: I meant to say take +1 instead of +2 one day and the +2 instead of +1 the next, alternating times trying to catch the begging of a drop - which could be his onset. Not to add +1 to the reg routine. Certainly no need to over poke.

Catcat will certainly let me know if I'm overpoking, he still hasn't entirely forgiven me for that low attempted PMPS and subsequent testing every 20 minutes a couple of nights ago -- and could be that the depot isn't entirely refilled after the skip then -- also I had this happen a couple of times while on Vetsulin, his pancreas might be trying to release more insulin at times, as he gets into lower numbers and begins to heal :woot:

I'll see if I can catch some different times for testing -- I've been checking a +2 to see if "anything is going to happen" thus I would need to schedule more testing that day, my crystal ball is usually cloudy, can't predict -- LOL

as it is, Catcat is scratching and clawing at everything in sight or reach, figuring I have a +3 coming up in a few minutes, and he wants MORE FOOD

    back to the beach -- hey wasn't that an Annette Funicello movie? -- Catcat's +3 = 220
at least it's below renal threshold

fed him only a mouthful and a half, waiting to see what happens at nadir, often around +4.5

I am not a morning person either -- if left to my own devices, I would sleep until 10 am, stay up until midnight

I joke about having cat genes (I really need my meaty protein) -- but that does NOT apply to my sleeping habits

no apologies necessary -- it's today's post and we are all on topic

however ... Catcat ... would sleep all day except for mealtimes, stay awake and active dawn and twilight, in and out all night

I'm a night owl myself, but that schedule is not an option for me either! I did discover that natural light has so much to do with it...I was up & wide awake in Costa Rica where it gets dark early & then is LOUD & super bright by 5am. I'm looking into the Phillips Hue ambient lights for my ceiling lights that will do dawn simulation :D! I think that will make a huge difference in how I feel.

Catcat is really active, pacing up and down, pawing the cabinet -- may be a sign that he's getting close to nadir -- it's 4.5, maybe time to test

I didn't feed him THAT much at +3, maybe there will be only a slight food influence

I was wrong -- +4.5 = 214 -- either food influenced, or we have a flat cycle today

    :p

off to the food bank this afternoon, what a confused mess, they changed the procedures early this month but the volunteers didn't' get retrained til this week

turns out I didn't have one of the pieces of paper they now require, so had to go back to the end of the line, and by the time I was up to the front, they had shut down

so, no late afternoon test today

    okay -- analyze for me, if you will -- +1.5 tonight = 269 -- PMPS = 264

if I test at +3 tonight it will be food influenced, I didn't give THAT much (maybe a tablespoon) but ...
could stay up for a +3.5 but that's pushing it, I'm already sleepy
