    Hey everyone!

I am flying with Mowgli to Nova Scotia at the beginning of August and I'm tryin to prepare. I wanted to grab a FRIO duo wallet for safe transport of my insulin however the website is sold out, and amazon wont be able to get it here until after my trip... I noticed a knock off by Glucology and ordered it... has anyone tried this brand before?

I've read a few posts about travelling with diabetic cats but if anyone has any good tips for me to keep Mowgli in good spirits while travelling ... I'm into it :D

It looks like it works just like the Frio, a water evaporation system. The only difference I see is the time that it says it will keep cool, 36 hours compared to 45 hours for the Frio. I am not sure of a procedure to actually test to see if the insulin will stay in the recommended range of temp, maybe a couple of capped syringes with water, or some other small receptacle with water. Then empty the water and use some kind of thermometer to test the temp? Perhaps someone can come up with a better test solution.

It's good that you are planning for the trip in advance and I know you will get suggestions about that.

    Thanks Lou :D

36 hrs is enough, because I use Lantus, I feel like the amount of time it theoretically should take to reactivate the crystals in the cool pack wouldnt be so long to have long lasting effects on the insulin... I just hope it is actually as good of a product... their website has good reviews, but I am skeptical of reviews found on the actual product home page

I'm sorry you couldn't get a Frio, with all the storms, heat waves etc all over I bet the supplies are low or out! Maybe some of the local pharmacies or pharmacies in the larger variety stores would carry them and possibly have them in stock.
The wallet/pouch you have might work just as well, I hope so. Mowgli is going to become a traveling pro!

HAHA! totally a pro! I wonder if it will be weird for him to return home :D Some of my family are really having a hard time understanding why I've kept him around ... I think from a cost perspective. I was like... Mom... I've spent more on wine than it costs to have a diabetic pet :p My BF's family is SO excited to meet him though ;) Mowgli the travelling gypsy cat :joyful:

I hadn't thought of checking local pharmacies, I wonder if they would carry them... I will check today when I go to grab more BG test strips ;)

They're in stock on Amazon in Canada but the shipping dates show that the wallet wouldn't get here until after I leave in August :banghead: It's the website that is mostly out of stock, and the website ships with Canada post so who KNOWs when I would get it ;)

It looks like Diabetic Express Pharmacy https://diabetesexpress.ca/ may have some. It does not say on their website what carriers they use for shipping, but since they ship insulin it may be something other than Canada post.

This would have definitely worked if I would have gotten on board sooner! I have already ordered the glycology so I will give it a shot and see what happens, if it is horrible I will definitely return it and order a FRIO

Thanks for your help Lisa :D

    Now, ECID .
My last/first kitty travelled with me often... in the air. Of course I assume Mowgli will be with you as a carry on? This is what I did with Molly- she was in her carrier on the floor between my feet, right? As soon as the seatbelt lights off, went on I would take Molly out of carrier put her on my lap under my blanket. If a flight attendant or a person walk down the aisle I made sure she was covered over by blanket ;)
Worst case scenario I thought was that if caught- told I must keep her in her carrier then I would play oh my gosh I’m so sorry I didn’t realize it! Wink-smile ;).
And also, of course I always made sure I was sitting in a row with no one else... she could look out the window and be on my lap in my arms... feeling s.a.f.e. :bighug:.
If you think about it- how frightening all the strange people talking, all the foot step, babies crying... > The overhead speakers :woot:!?!
My behavior and thoughts were not planned everything just happened, I will say this though… I knew Molly would feel most comfortable and safest in physical touch with me :cat: :bighug:
I will never forget the first time she flew with me and going through customs. They made me take her out of her carrier and with all the noise and commotion I thought for sure she would bolt out of my arms. She didn’t and I later realized it was because Molly knew she was safe with me :cat: :bighug:
That is my experience with Molly flying with me :).

Thanks Lisa! It should be here tomorrow! I will try it out and let you know :)

@Krystina & Nelli: you are SO impressive, I have a really hard time breaking rules haha... as soon as I was caught I KNOW the flight attendant would see the guilt on my face :p

I have some Zylkene for Mowgli. He started taking it before he moved out here to live with me, and according to my sister ( who flew out with him) he was only vocal for the first 15mins or so. I’m going to try him on that.

I just want to thank you for posting about the insulin cooling wallet. I didn't think about what I would do if we lost electric power and had to store the insulin. I live in Florida and we had hurricanes in the last two years where we lost electric power for a week. I now will have something to keep Mango's insulin cool if needed. A generator isn't going to keep the fridge temp constant. Just placed the order on Amazon. Phew I just saved myself from a potential stressful situation.

    @Marianne M
Marianne, there is a new document about power outages and insulin storage in the FAQs forum right under the Hypo Toolbox document. There was also a discussion in the Think Tank forum with lots of extra input and suggestions you might want to look at.

They're really cool! .... literally

its awesome that you only need water to activate them and that even if it warms then you can actually just wet it again to reactivate! so sweet :D

Glad that I was able to provide a reason to shop :p
