I've been looking for a toothpaste for Babu and my civies, since convincing my vet or any vet right now to do a dental on my cats has become harder because all their illness and everythig that went on with one of my cyvies (FIP) spite me telling that if something goes wrong with their teeth things may get ugly it seems the whole list of illness scares the vets more

So I want to help in any way I can to avoid complications and I have been looking around for some toothpaste does any one have any suggestions on a diabetic friendly one, because most of the ones I've found have suggar in them

I've heard about Pet smile has anyone used it?

Pet Smile is the one recommended by the dental specialist I take my girls to. I was unable to use it on Mia because she refuses to have anything done to her mouth, but I gave it to my sister, and she uses it on her cat. It took a few times to get him used to it, but he seems to like it now. You don't have to actually brush their teeth with it but just get it on the teeth.

The specialist also very strongly recommended 1-TDC supplement which I give to both of my girls. I get it on Amazon.

I bought both of these products! I’ve been doing the 1-TDC for a little more than a week, and the toothpaste for a couple days.
Jackson HATES the 1-TDC. I may quit after this bottle just because of that. He has had good numbers and seems really spry, so maybe it’s helping his joints. It’s hard to tell if it’s helping his gingivitis.

All my cats tolerate this toothpaste well. I don’t follow the instructions to put a dime sized amount, that sounds like a lot of paste to me. I looked up the active ingredient and it is used in human teeth and seems like it has actual health benefits so I’m hopeful. I just pass the brush over their teeth once or twice on each side and in the front. It’s a struggle, but it has gotten easier with time. I’m not sure if I’m doing it right, but one video said brushing should be less than 10 seconds, so you apparently don’t have to scrub away.

Hi do you ever just rub in on their teeth and that's it, it says it in their site that you don't have to brush if you don't want to Thanks

I use a brush, because my cats will accept it and it’s supposed to be good for the gums to be brushed. It’s a good idea to begin by rubbing with a swab, your finger, or a scrap of gauze. Actually, I would begin by offering the toothpaste as a treat. I would also start messing with your cat’s mouth during relaxed moments, touching it and pulling his lips up, so he gets used to it. And rewarding everything with treats.

Willow is not a fan of it, but one quick squirt, and it is in her mouth! Mia doesn't mind it. She eats hers off of chicken. She does not like anything at all being done to her mouth.

Do you know exactly why it works? I can’t find much info about it.

As far as how to use PetSmile. This is from their site:
"Simply apply Petsmile on your cat or dog’s teeth and let their tongue do the rest. Your pet can immediately eat or drink after applying Petsmile, no need to wait. However, for best results, we recommend brushing your pet’s teeth with a toothbrush or use our Petsmile Applicator Swabs once or twice a day. The great taste that pets love makes it easy to use Petsmile as a healthy treat up to 2 times a day."

If a cat will tolerate brushing, great. If they will not, just get the paste on their teeth.

Thank you everyone for your great suggestions, they all help because I'm embarrassed to admit I've never considered brushing any of my cat's teeth until now :( I should have considered it a lot of years ago, now I'm going to struggle a lot with all of them, last night I tried checking their teeth not putting anything yet just open and try to touch their teeth and lets just say it didn't went well,:arghh: but I have to find a way if I want to at least try and avoid bigger problems

I thought I might try dipping a q tip into the "juice" from his pate, and rubbing that on teeth -- worth a try anyway
