Everybody stay on board because if Buddy comes home I might be needing everyone's help. I called the vet to see about Buddy and they said it was up to me if I wanted to bring him home or for him to stay over the week-end. The tech said they would be there until later this afternoon after they close @ 1 p.m., and they would check in on him this evening and tomorrow in the morning, in the afternoon and later in the evening. She said they gave him fluids in his IV at this time but that was all.
The vet just called me and was angry because she felt as though I was drilling the tech, she said that the tech made no medical decisions, they were made by her. Guess she has had a bad day, me too, a bad year.

Wow, the vet got angry, to bad, you should be able to ask all the questions you want to and if the tech can't answer them then tell her you want to talk to the vet.

sending healing purrs to Buddy no matter where he lands -- too bad the vet (and possibly the tech too) might be having a bad day

I agree. She needs to adjust her attitude or she will start losing clients and possibly employees.

Buddy is home, he took a few bites of dry food and went behind the couch. Buddy was sent home with liquid Metronidazole 0.5 ML by mouth 2 x a day, good luck getting this down him, this was to be used for Peritonitis. I do have some Pills I will give to him instead of the liquid. She also sent home Bupe for pain, no other antibiotics. I think I will give him an appetite stimulant tonight, he looks at his food like he wants to eat but does not. He has not ate anything while he was at the vets and today was the 1st day he had any insulin, which was Vetsulin. I thought he would be staying this week-end and I did not wanting them giving him Vetsulin when no one was there to monitor. I had earlier asked the Vet if they had any Lantus because if they did not I would bring some there and she told me yes they did, but they don't. I asked about ketones and she said that they had been checked and they said he had none. When I checked him he had trace amounts.

M 97 year old Mother is on her way home from the hospital and my sister said my mother had refused to take her medicine last night and had gotten out in the hall and was trying to leave the hospital. She said mother was very confused. Looks like I am in for a good week-end. This is the main reason I have not been on the board as much the last 2 years.

I agree with everyone else - what an unprofessional way for your vet to behave! Asking questions is totally normal and should be expected, and answering questions is part of her job as a vet. Teresa, would you mind me asking what Buddy is being treated for?

I need the prayers. When Buddy was at the Vet they were giving him cerenia, he keeps going to his food bowl like he wants to eat but just can't. I gave him 1/2 of a ondansetron and tonight I am going to give him an appetite stimulant 2 hrs. before meal time. I hope this helps, I am worried that his ketones showing trace amounts and he is not eating.

What the hell is wrong with this vet, you asked if they had Lantus, they said yes and you even told them if they didn't you would bring it to them, then they said no ketones, you said you checked him and had trace amounts, did you check him when you brought him home today. To bad there wasn't another vet closer to you, I know you said your check engine light is staying in so you don't want to travel further, I can understand that. Is this vet the only one there where you go now

(((Teresa))) I’m so very sorry for all that is going on right now between your mom and Buddy. Sending them both healing energy and light and extra strength vines for you.

Yes, assist feeding is done quite a bit around here. In fact, Jill did a post with some great resources on assist feeding. It includes a great video. When I first had to give medication to one of my cats when he was a baby and needed liquid meds, I found that wrapping the towel around him made a huge difference, from then on, if I ever need to give him anything by mouth, he’s a champ and we haven’t used the towel since he was a baby.

Wishing you, Buddy, and your mom the best.

No, I think next time I will ask to see someone else. When I brought him home I checked and he had trace amounts, the last time he peed in a spot of the litter where it soaked it all up. I am almost afraid to look.

I have been trying all day to get Buddy to eat and he has been eating dry food will not touch the canned, so I went to give him a shot, somewhere besides his stomach area where I give the shot most of the time. After the shot I reached down and it was wet, I am so afraid because this morning was the 1st shot he has had since Wednesday morning and it was 3 units of Vetsulin. When I checked him earlier he was high 300's, if that was a fur shot what will happen to him.

I had asked the vet about force feeding and she told me no, but tomorrow if he is still not eating I am going to do some assist or force feeding.

I'm so sorry you're dealing with so much. I hope Buddy will eat for you soon. I've seen cats go that high before with bounces or fur shots and then come back down. He should be okay if he's just high for a little while. Sending prayers. :bighug::bighug:

Yes but the more appropriate term is assisted feeding. I have done that with many cats and have been doing that with my civi Moxie for a while. I usually have to syringe about 1/2 here needed food daily.

I have not done a post on this for a few days because of being so busy, Buddy went to see the vet on Tuesday and Clavamox was added to his meds. On Tuesday he was given IV fluids and a shot of Metcam (spelling), that evening he felt pretty good. He really has not been eating much, I have been giving him his insulin, but is BG have been out of sight, really scary. Buddy is still very painful even though I am giving him Bupe. Today, the vet is taking about a consult out of town to a specialty hospital. Buddy had a tooth pulled earlier in the month and I am wondering if that started this. Does anybody have ang suggestions.

The situation is so complex that I think the hospital is the best place for him for now.
Clavamox is good AB but it was reported upsetting some kitties GI but it was ok for my cat. Hopefully Buddy won't have any problems :bighug: sending healing vines

What was the reason for admittance today?
    Any preliminary Dx?

    :bighug:

When Ducia was in ER we visited and she actually perked up and started to eat after that.
I left her blanket over there with home-y smells.
If they let you visit take something he can recognize as "his" and have his favorite foods when you there - someone else's kitty was not eating the hospital meals but ate what her mom brought in.

He is only allowed to eat 1 thing, which he gets at home and will get at the hospital. The last time I went every day to visit, I can't do that this time because my mother is home from the hospital and I can't leave her.

it is terrible feeling. Call them when you can; I called in every 4 h because Ducia was on rapid insulin at the time and they checked the BG every 4h.
What is good (at least for now ) is that you can focus on settling your mom in without been torn between two patients needing your help. Buddy is at the right place for him. :bighug:

Sometimes I have not been able to post things because of taking my Mother to the doctor, leaving me with no time. I don't understand why these sweet little things have to suffer and I know Buddy does. My Mother is 97 years old and she can barely walk right now, hope she gets stronger. Thank you, for caring.

It's very hard I know , my daughter is 33 and lives with me with a chronic illness, she's in pain 24/7. It's just me and her, husband died 11 yrs ago

Oh, PS: what's your Mom's diagnosis, and can you get any respite care set up so you don't have to be there with her 24/7? That sort of load breaks many caregivers, so I hope you are thinking of yourself too, so you can be there most effectively for others. Love the idea of getting something with a "home" smell (unwashed sweater, perhaps?) to Buddy. Again, many prayers, much love and supports. Cats are indeed tough little creatures: Mrow 'had been at 550 BG for who knows how long when he was diagnosed, and he's been fine for many months now.

Buddy came to my house 9 years ago, he was a grown cat, but not very old.
My Mother has A-Fib and to keep her from having a stroke she takes blood thinners. Recently she has had 3 episodes of nose bleeds, which was like turning on the faucet full blast. Every time I have called 911 and she was taken to the hospital. The last time she woke up and she was covered in blood and so was her bed. Good thing she woke up. That time they kept her in the hospital. She is so weak she can barely walk or get out of bed. So if she needs anything I need to get it for her. Yesterday, I took Buddy back to the vet and she had 2 doctor's appt., and I had a bad time getting her out of the house, into the car, out of the car, and in and out of each doctor's office.
I am sorry to hear your daughter is ill, my daughter also has health problems. My daughter is married, but if she wasn't married I would be happy for her to live here.

Oh Teresa , I'm sorry about your mom and your daughter. You must be exhausted. Is there maybe a neighbor that could help you getting her into the car when she has a doctor's appointment. That must be so scary when she gets those nose bleeds. Please keep us updated on your mom and Buddy

Fluff his face hair out, too funny. Yes Tyler is muscular, but he's also fat. He is a big cat but trying to get him to lose weight has been hard. Before being diagnosed he weighed 23 lbs. Was only on dry food. Then noticed he was walking funby, drinking a lot ,etc. When I took him to my vet he weighed in at 18 lbs. Which I was glad about that. Then immediately started him on FF Chicken Pate and Dr Elseys Clean Protein Dry just for a small snack if he kept bugging me. He eats about 2 cans or less a day of the FF , probably less. So each can is 99 calories. The Dr Elseys , I might give him about 15 pieces, if that. Now he's back up to 21 lbs. Talked with my vet about it. Tyler has neuropathy , but it's gotten a lot better. So he doesn't run around as much as his brother. They are 11 yrs old. He's always been a lazy cat. He eats, pees , poops and then loves to sleep lol. I try to play with him and get him to move around. His thryoid is fine. Most likely it's because he's not burning calories, because he's a lazy boy lol.
His brother is just the opposite, always running around and playing. His name is Perry, this little guy has kidney disease and seizures. But hasn't had a seizure in about 9 months. He's still at stage 2 with the kidney disease. I think it's been about 6 or 7 yrs already. I would have to look it up to be accurate. But he's doing good and goes for his blood work this Thursday, I'm hoping things haven't gotten worse. He's in Phenobarbital and Keppra to control the seizures. Cerenia for nausea. Between the both of them I feel like a nurse walking around with the pill cart handing out meds lol @Amy47

Buddy, was to stay all week-end at the hospital, so I slept a little latter on Saturday. Out of the blue phone rings, it is the vet's and it scares me to death, 1 of the tech's calling, she said Buddy has ate all his food and when I walk by his cage he starts meowing and the vet is going to send him home. You could have knocked me over with a feather. After I brought him home from the hospital several times on Saturday afternoon he was eating dry food and then he did not want to eat at supper time, so I did assisted feeding of 2 t of watered down wet food last night. This morning I took no chances and gave him an appetite stimulant. I just took his BG and it was 400, that is awful. Yesterday the vet told me to give Buddy 1 week and if his BG does not come down to call her and she would tell me what to raise it to. Seems strange I have been raising it for almost 3 years by myself or from help FDMB (mostly Kris & Teasel). He is home Yay! Yay! Yay! My Blonde Baby Buddy is home. I need to pray he is able to stay at home.

My Mother is doing much better, her dose of warfarin has been lowered, but she is scared to death to take her medicine. Sometime she gets confused and does not remember things. She still can not get around very well, however we are having Home Health and physical therapy come in. It is almost it impossible for me to get her out, so for these to come to the house is a big help. Thank you, for asking.

Teresa that's great news about your mom. It will help you out so much, as for Buddy, I am so happy he's home and stays there. I see you said you can't get Buddy's spreadsheet to save. I don't know what you mean, maybe you can post about it and ask someone to help you so you can start filling it in @Teresa & Buddy

@Teresa & Buddy I was going to say the same thing as CandyH , I had someone set it up for me, there are directions on how to set it up, who helped you set it up the first time? If I could help you I would. Why don't you post and ask someone for help to do a new one for you. The instructions are on the forum that says suggestions and Tech support

Yeah I know...I'm a Case Manager for DCIN and we're helping pay some of his bill. He's had a rough time, that's for sure!
