After yesterday (first lime, skipped shot, and reducie)...I'm hesitant, but inclined to shoot this 118. Can monitor.

But if anyone happens to be around... thoughts appreciated!
Stalling and retesting 25 mins from first test, about 15 mins from this post.

I did wonder about shooting 2u or something like that. It looks to me like he's sliding down from the bounce?

    Haven't shot yet!

Could be breaking a bounce. He could also be going down cause he hasn’t eaten in a while. That’s the potential down side to stalling. Plus it's within meter variance.

You said you feel like shooting? It is the weekend.

Looks like Figaro could be looking at a quick succession of reductions. Sure hope so!
I would not shoot a full dose. But you know I'm just learning too Liz!

Food will bump him up and you have a couple hours until onset. However, the decision has to be yours. I wouldn’t stall any longer. Either shoot full dose, part dose, or skip. What are you up for?

Yes, he gets a little snack around +9.
I can monitor, want to shoot something. But unsure if the full 2.75 is dangerous?
    I'm thinking 2u

Note that due to whatever size the depot thinks it is, a reduced dose is no guarantee you won’t see excitment tonight. Maybe just not for as long.

    Thanks @Wendy&Neko @Olive & Paula

I shot 2u. I am ready for action!

Clearly I need to be testing more now that we are seeing better numbers. Fig is changing the rules. :)

I would get an early test, +1 and +2, to make sure food is halting the drop.

Maybe you just need to be testing differently. I liked a +9 or +10 test to give me a heads up on what might be coming up. Plus bounce breaking cycles can have later nadirs.

The good news is how quickly he is clearing bounces.

Yes! When I took the PS I kicked myself a bit for not getting a +10, but I had assumed he'd still be highish. Mistake made, lesson learned.

Short bounces are exciting. And now that the numbers are lower I am also better able to see how bounces differ from the flat high numbers we had for quite a while. So I am starting to understand what's going on... sort of. (Somehow it all flies out of my head when something new happens, but I'll keep reading and learning amap!)

You are doing a wonderful job with Fig! I hope his numbers continue to improve...with time you'll start to see trends, but to be perfectly honest it's their call and their game as to what's coming next - at least with Luci who took away my crystal ball the day she was diagnosed...I have a better feel for it now, but she still loves to pull out the greens whenever she feels like it, not when I'd like for her to do so...just be prepared to work with lower numbers - they're coming and you'll want to be solid on how and when to give insulin...Lantus likes consistency..so try not to change dose unless your protocol demands it (low numbers, etc.) and the time of day is important too...try to be as consistent as possible on the timing - I know if you're waiting it throws things off - and now tomorrow you've got to work back by 15 minute increments to your original times...but you'll get there.

Have a wonderful evening...hope it's not too wild and crazy for you :)

He inhaled the gravy and is grooming, purring. Before the test/gravy I noticed his back fur was a little twitchy, but he had just woken up from a nap. Mostly seems normal.

Ok he is 52! Breathing again for now and taking down the flag.
But since I am so early in the cycle, I'm wondering if I should feed more HC or MC? He usually gets LC at +3...

I'd give him a teaspoon of HC or gravy and test again in 30 minutes since it's so early in the cycle. It's better for him to be over 60.

If it were my cat he would get some more hc and test again in 20/30. High carb can wear off so I'd want him up more than 50.

More HC given and happily recieved.
Because the HC wears off quickly, does it make sense to feed LC to keep him propped up through onset?
Just to be clear, I am on high alert! Will test in 20. He just finished eating.

64 at +1:55. So a little bump keeping him up!

He is napping. My guess is that if I gave him HC he would eat it, but he may not be as interested in LC just yet.

I'd see if you can get him to eat a teaspoon of LC to keep him surfing. If he won't eat it, you may need to give him HC. The idea is to keep him over 60 for two tests after feeding HC.

ETA: For two tests after the last feeding of HC.

That's better. Agree with Carla small snacks of LC. If he won't eat it after that yummy HC you could mix a little of the gravy into the LC that sometimes works for my gravy lover. You are doing a great job Momma bean.:bighug:

Poor Fig, he is zonked. He is tired but I think he also feels off in these lower numbers... (and a bit annoyed by the pokes). He ate most but not all of the LC/HC snack.
So, I'm expecting to give more HC,but won't get ahead of myself!

He might drop lower again as the insulin takes effect during the first half of the cycle. If you are concerned you can always bump up his BG a bit with some higher carb food to give you a bit of a safety margin

It's been difficult identifying his nadir time. I thought for a while it was around +4 or +5, but in recent streaks of green it has seemed closer to +7.

Just so you know, for some cats, it takes closer to 30 minutes before the carbs go from the plate to the blood stream as sugar. Also, you may need more carbs for lows early in the cycle when the insulin is stronger, than later when it's waning. For that reason, if there is a next time :cat:, you might want to consider a dab of honey or karo for 30's early in the cycle. The goal of HC/sugars is to get them up around 30 points. Good to see those notes on what you fed and when. I don't know what % your HC is, but I kept something a little higher % around for early drops or under 40's.

Good to see him rising a bit. Since he has earned a reduction, feel free to be a little heavy handed with the HC if you want him higher so you can get to sleep sometime.

Oh, and definitely a reduction down to 2.5 units.

Just about... but even so, I think I'll wait up for one more test, maybe around +6:15, just to be sure he is safe. :)

I'm sure he will gladly receive nuzzles by proxy! :) I'll wait up a little longer. I'll feel better if I can get him to eat before I sleep, but will leave some food out for him regardless.

Liz, did you manage to get some rest. Good job last night, you handled it like a pro.
Sending you lots of :coffee::coffee: this morning. Lots of head scritches to the little man.:bighug:

@carfurby and @Jerry dutchboy you are so kind to check in after staying with me through my scary time yesterday :bighug: It was a bit of a crazy night but now, it's a new day! Fig is bouncing for sure with an AMPS of 347, but seems to feel fine. He got another reducie to 2.5.

@Krystina & Nelli is completely right! I got a few hours of sleep last night, got up for our routine, then crashed again. I feel much better now! Time to run errands... including a stop for cat food, of course :cat:

Fig is also glad I've been sleeping and not bugging him ;) Checking on his bird pals outside right now.

Felt bad signing off last night but I knew you had two experienced members on board. So glad he started to come up shortly after. Happy you got some rest, its exhausting watching the 20 mins tick by when you're concerned. Hope he decides to take off his spacesuit soon and come back from the moon.:bighug:

Oh, I hope you didn't feel too bad! You helped me so much and I didn't feel abandoned for a moment.
I hope he decides to come back from his space excursion too.. a little less dramatically this time! :)

    So
Krystina, sorry I didn't mean that you were blaming her just my way of putting that I didn't blame her after the night she had. Good for her that she can catch up on sleep. I'm jealous of anyone who can sleep in.

My bad that I came across incorrectly, we were actually on the same page.:bighug:

Liz you did amazingly last night! I would have lost my mind completely but you stayed positive, I'm impressed. Glad you could sleep and that Fig is safe AND earned a reduction. I hope he's going in the right direction, that would be wonderful. Have a great day!
