Kittie got away with needle in scruff...

Has anyone ever had this happen? I was giving Scout his PM dose and he suddenly jerked away with the needle still partly in his fur. I took it out and tried to re-inject what was left into another spot in his scruff. I don’t know how much he got. I feel like such a failure, given that this is his first day back on the juice.

Can anyone relate?

 

Absolutely!! Furshots happen to the best of us!!

We have a few people that put $1 in a jar each time and then at Christmas, they buy the cat something special!!

You can. However do not give any more insulin tonight. You do not know how much insulin was actually injected

Yes....because you may have gotten the entire shot in...and even if you didn't, there's no such thing as too much data.

One I know of that did it all the time (and bought some nice gifts!) was @Ella & Rusty & Stu(GA)

 

First time I ever shot Bama he turned around and the whole syringe was sticking out of his back. I quickly hit the plunger and think it all went in. Any time I have done a fur shot, I have always been able to smell the insulin and feel the wet spot on his fur. Maybe you had a better hit than you think.

 

Yes! My furshot basket always had lots of money in it because I was so good at giving furshots! (But I bought a nice bottle of wine for us beans with that $, not a gift for Rusty) (but don't worry; he got his gifts, too).

Oh honey, can I relate??? Almost daily. This has been so hard on Roscoe and us. We feel awful and like you, failures. I have shed so many tears I literally could fill a river. This cat will not "let" us inject him while eating, hides after eating, jumps, cries, twists and yes flys away with the needle swinging side to side. We have been "trained" at the vet to inject and of course he didnt move there becuz he is scared shitless but at home he isnt stupid. He absolutely knows after breakfast and dinner it is time to turn into the tasmania devil. We recently purchased an auto injector for pets. We have used it 4 times and it is freaking amazing! But I just posted asking about it becuz I noticed the needle length that goes into him isnt nearly as long as what would go through if we can get it in manually. But his fur isnt wet and I dont smell the insulin after injection (which is what we do after he would fly away with needle in him like you had happen. I mean what else can you do right?) Telling you not to be hard on yourself is easy but that is what we do cuz we love them so. So I'll just say, I get it and you arent alone.
