To skip or reduce dose?

I work long hours so the way Rocky's dosing schedule works is he gets his PM shot 10 hours after his AM shot on some days. Usually his PMPS number is high enough I'm comfortable with that but this afternoon it was around 215. I couldn't stall long enough to ask advice here, and no one else is around to give him a shot and/or check his blood sugar. In this instance, would it be better to skip a shot entirely or reduce the dose? I decided to lower the dose by 0.5 unit and leave out some MC canned along with his normal LC canned. Someone will be able to check on him in a couple hours to look for symptoms, but aren't comfortable testing. I don't have enough data yet to know how low he usually drops.

Sorry you didn't get an answer to your question. It depends on what the number actually is. If below 200 and no one around to check, I might be tempted to skip a dose or just give 0.5 so he would have some insulin. Did he eat the MC food you left out for him? If so, that may be why his AMPS was a bit high or he may have gone low and bounced. Looks like he may be needing a reduction in dose soon. Do you have a day off soon when you could do a curve?

Yes I plan on doing it tomorrow and some more tuesday. I'll actually be switching to the Relion soon as I'm running out of alphatrak strips. Do you think I should run both meters from the same drop of blood for a couple times to compare numbers? Or can I just switch right to Relion? (not mid-curve of course)

Hard to say how much MC he ate, he loves it but my other kitty probably shared :)

I wouldn’t do the comparison between the two meters more than maybe the initial reading. It will make you crazy because the differences you get are never exact from one reading to the next.
