    It's been nearly a year since I've posted. I have missed y'all.

2019 has been crazy and difficult all year and I will be glad to see it in the rearview mirror.

I haven't been able to write this post. :( I had to say goodbye to PrettyGirl the 1st of November. I have cried buckets and buckets of tears. It feels like writing this post makes it even more final - although it's as final as it can be - I've had her ashes for a month.

Thanks to all of you for generously sharing your advice, wisdom and experience with regulating feline diabetes. I learned everything I needed to know about it from this board and everyone here. PrettyGirl was pretty regulated for a year or so. My job in the middle of the 2019 required me to travel full time - I had a vet tech who came in to care for her and my other cats twice a day. Although she sometimes ran a bit high, I also had low blood sugar moments with PrettyGirl (40!) but thanks to what I had learned here I had the supplies on hand and knew what to do. Thank y'all. :bighug::bighug:

In late August I took PrettyGirl to the AAHA vet I've been going to for a year and a half or so. They did her bloodwork and checked her over and said the results of her labs were nearly perfect. In October I had to move houses on short notice (long story) and I'm sure the change in routine didn't help PrettyGirl. Looking back, however, I think she wasn't as good as they said she was.

During the last week in October she got very sick very fast. I don't feel like I got good guidance from the AAHA vet. I took PrettyGirl to the emergency vet and they thought with a several day hospital stay she could get well. After 5 days ($$$$$) she was much much better and came home. I was giving her meds, fluids, and more. But in 1-1/2 days or so she was much much worse than when I took her in to the emergency vet originally. We went back to the emergency hospital and consulted with the internal medicine specialist. The dr said that even with another week's stay it was unlikely PrettyGirl could recover. Unfortunately, PrettyGirl was so bad off that I could see that was most probably right. She was so bad off - blood pressure at only 50 and BG at 750 - her body was shutting down. They diagnosed her with kidney disease, enlarged lymph nodes and probable cancer, in addition to the diabetes and pancreatitis she had lived with for nearly 4 years.

The internal medicine vet - I had never met her before - was amazing and so kind. So PrettyGirl went to heaven. I had her for almost 14 years and of my 5 cats she was the one I was closest to. (Where's the tears icon?) I know it was the right decision but I'm still struggling to cope with her loss.

PrettyGirl's littermate and twin - SweetPea - is sad too. I'm so sad for SweetPea to have lost her constant companion for 14 years. SweetPea seems to be slowly recovering but she didn't eat well for quite a while. I really will never get over this. I know many of you understand and have been there too.

When I can, I will adopt another kitty who has diabetes. I now have 4 cats and that seems like not enough after having 5.

Thank you, thank you, thank you to all of you here. I will always remember you.

Awwwwww, she is a "Pretty Girl"! So sorry that she has passed on. Those darn little furballs weasel their way into our hearts and try as we might to save them, sometimes it just doesn't work out the way we were hoping. Your other kitties will need extra hugs and play time now.

    Dear Jean,
I am saddened to read that PrettyGirl has journeyed to the Bridge. She is safe there and "in good paws" with all of our GAs until that wonderful day when you will be reunited. I know how much you miss your girl. Grieving takes a long time, but as time passes you will know that PrettyGirl is always with you, in that part of your heart that belongs only to her.
SweetPea and your other kitties need to grieve, too. Hold them dear.
And it is wonderful to contemplate that somewhere out there is another diabetic kitty who will receive your kindness and good care, and who will be living testimony to PrettyGirl's legacy. Bless you for your decision to adopt another feline diabetic.

    In deepest sympathy,
Ella & Edward, Rusty (GA) and Stu (GA)

I am so sorry about your loss. Pretty Girl was the prettiest of cats.
I have not much words, as I know how excruciating the pain is. The only thing I know is that it eventually gets better, and you'll remember the good times, and a happy and healthy Pretty Girl. She will always be in your heart. Take good care of yourself :bighug:

We get close to our sweet diabetic kittehs. They don't ask for much, and in return they give us back so much more.

May your sweet kitteh fly free, and land safely at the Bridge. Pretty Girl was loved.cat_wings>o

So sorry for your loss. We are relatively new here so I never did meet your Pretty Girl but she was beautiful! I miss my white kitty as well. They all have special places in our hearts. It is their job to give us happiness for as long as they can and teach us what unconditional love is. I believe that someday we will all meet up once again with all of our beloved animals that have passed. Although she is no longer physically present here, she is always present in your heart.:bighug::bighug:

Thanks to each and everyone of you for your kind words, sweet thoughts and compliments to Pretty Girl. I so appreciate your understanding and expressions of sympathy.

I still miss Pretty Girl terribly - I know many of you know from experience how it is. I do know I will eventually get used to her having gone ahead and I can't wait to be reunited with her in the future. She was such a special special kitty and we had the strongest of bonds. She KNEW I was always going to take care of her and she expressed it in her complete trust.

During the last week - when she was in the hospital and then home again for a few days - we had two especially sweet moments together that I will remember always and will treasure. She taught me great lessons about unconditional love as did my other 2 GA kitties.

Pretty Girl was OTJ for about 3-1/2 years. Still, she was only 13 - too young to go.

I'm glad she's whole again and not suffering. But it is so painful.

    Thank you all!!! :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:
