Wow! last night looks great! I can't tell you weather or not to shoot, but will you be around to monitor and do you have all the supplies you need? (Psst I just shot an 88! Eeeek! )

Thing is, I did not sleep at all, and am already sleep deprived. I can't go on like this again today and be alert and monitor every hour.
I feel like this is too risky, without data, what if he goes wayyyy too low?

    I have supplies yes.

You can stall, don't feed and test in 15 mins to see where he is going.

totally understand, I will let someone more experienced jump in though. It is really scary to shoot low numbers the first couple times.

I'm sorry you had a PJ party last night! I hope someone will be along shortly to guide you. You could tag someone that's helped you in the past. I'm no pro but, 106 is a safe # to shoot following TR dosing guidelines; as long as you can monitor, have plenty of test strips and MC/HC food. Shoot low to stay low. As Sandra said...I can't tell you to shoot either. It's your comfort level and ability to monitor today just in case you have to steer the cycle. You will have to shoot lower #s eventually:):bighug: And as Sandra said you can stall, w/o feeding and re-test to see if you're getting a rising #.
If you can't monitor, I'd question shooting. JMO

ETA: If Macka has a hx of DKA, you may need to provide some insulin.

Luckily I am at home today, but falling apart because of the lack of sleep (and the nervousness).

I already fed him, because he was at 105 at +11, and at 106 at AMPS, so no movement up. And he was so hungry from the greens.

I gave him MC last night a few times, and it did not give him a food bump, at all. So I am also concerned about that.

Look at the blue you shot on 12/8 and how he went into the yellows -- is it time to test again to see if he's going up?
I'm afraid he'll go quite high if you don't shoot, but I understand your position!!! I'm thinking like you . . . half, BUT he has a full depot, and even shooting a half dose wouldn't mean you could quit testing too soon.
Penelope - it is fabulous to see your boy in greens!!

I am thinking you will have a busy testing day even if you don't shoot. (he may also go up) Like Jan said if his Depot is already full it will still have an effect.

ETA: He will probably have a pretty good bounce from the greens, even if you shoot.

I see your point. I am still not sure what to do with his dose. Yes, I could test him again (I tested him 45 minutes ago).

I am leaning toward 1/2 dose though. Guys, I am so frightened and exhausted :(

Chances are he is going to bounce and then you can take good rest.
I was meaning to propose you shoot thru the bounce, the full dose and see what happens.
I believe he will bounce soon.
Shooting thru the full dose helps bringing the whole range of numbers down.
    What do you think Penelope?

Hi Penelope, I'm sorry I wasn't around earlier to help support you. And I don't want to do any 'Monday Morning Quarterbacking' at this point - you made your decision and that's fine.

You weighed your options and did what you thought was best.

The only thing I would have done differently was to proceed with the full dose - if you're home, able to monitor and have your supplies on hand for raising his blood glucose up if he falls down around 50 - maybe next time you get a beautiful blue number like that you can decide to shoot.

Remember what I've said before - eventually you're going to have to shoot those lovely green numbers that we all so desperately want to see.

Take care and relax. Maybe soon you'll get another chance? Fingers and paws crossed:bighug:

The shot was only 20 minutes late, so not too bad.

It took already all I've got, to shoot. He might bounce, but also, he might not, he hasn't in a long time!
I am going to try to sleep for an hour. Should I test in an hour or in two?

Thank you all for your support, you're precious

Good morning. Just seeing your tag now - am not a morning person. What a lovely line of green on Mačka's spreadsheet! The longer he spends in green, the more he will find it a friendly place to hang.
Chances are that he will bounce but I understand the lack of sleep. You are doing a good job, Penelope. A few months back, those green numbers would taken you and Mačka on a wild ride to the ER.
It is a busy day for me. I will not be able to hang out on the forum much.

I strongly believe that Machka is going to bounce from +1.75 on and you need to sleep.
If it is not too hard do take mid-cycle at +5 or an any mid cycle when you normally feed him for the data collection purposes.
But again, I DO think he will bounce.

I’m also sorry to be late here. Wendy and I are on West coast time so not often on in the mornings.

As Sue said, it’s just a matter now of seeing what he does but I agree with her that shooting the full dose would have been the best option and something to consider for the future. Because of the depot, shooting a half dose is going to look like shooting a full dose u til, perhaps, late in the cycle.

If he bounces, he would have done it anyway on a full dose. Take the opportunity to grab some sleep :)

Not only are Marje and I west coast, neither are early morning peeps. If I am up early, it’s because I am out the door for a workout. Good to see you had people around to help you. Like Marje, I too would have shot full dose. You can go back to 5 units tonight. One benefit of a slightly higher dose is a larger depot, so maybe he won’t go quite as high as a smaller dose cat. Well, ignoring the bounce of course.

Get a good nap in today. Over time, I got pretty good at getting up at night, and testing and back to bed all in 5 minutes. Napping is a good skill if you have a diabetic cat.

    Good question!
Well first, that MC food does not influence Macka s BG very much. I am not sure if it means that he would have gone lower without MC or that He’s just not very sensitive to carbs. Because he stayed flat and even went lower at +8.

Second, that an injection of slow active insulin does not have an effect during the first hours of the cycle. If I understood well, the cycle is influenced by the previous shot, please correct me if I’m wrong. I did not get it at all before today.

Third, that a breakthrough can happen to Macka too after all. I can see a pattern in his SS, similar to other cats that became regulated or went into remission. They all had a cycle like the one he just had, preceded by a few better preshot numbers, just like him. It gives me hope.

Fourth, that during the new moon, kitties go lower!

    I am open to comments!
