    I’m still trying to find the right dose to regulate my kitty on Lantus. We are at a very high dose right now. I thought we were doing pretty good with 6.5U. I decided to go to 7U. Since then, sugars seem to be elevated again. But I have also been feeding more Friskies pate than Fancy Feast pate. Has anyone seen a difference between the 2 foods? If not, it could be my kitty just staying difficult through this long journey.

    There isn't really a difference between the two, they are both very low carb. Those are some crazy high doses for a normal diabetic. Have you tested him for underlying issues such as IAA or acromegaly?

    Not yet, but thinking that is our next step.

    Does your kitty have any access to any high carb dry food at all?
    He's a gorgeous boy!

    Thank you! I watch him when my puppy eats her food and the kitties have their meal time knowing their dry food can spike his sugars.

    You might want to seriously consider switching your other kitties over to low carb canned food too. It has many benefits! Not only will you drastically reduce your chances of having another diabetic cat, you'll also not have to worry about what your sugarcat is getting into! (other than the dog's food).

    I plan to, I’m just trying to finish up the food they had all been eating prior to the diagnosis.
    Thank you!

    I wonder if anyone has checked the protein and carbs values on the Friskies and FF recently?
    We started using FF when the vet told us one cat was bordering on/possibly diabetic. With 4 cats we were cracking open more than 10 of those little cans a day (two were half-grown kittens and so eating a lot more, and one of the adults has since passed on.) So we switched to mixing FF with Friskies pate to cut both the cost and the number of cans. At first it seemed fine, but lately the Friskies is just looking, well, "icky". Not as good as it used to, somehow. My husband is not as thorough with mixing and mashing the food and extra water together, so our saying is now to make it "more like pudding than poo," but honestly the Friskies is reminding me more of poo right out of the can. Could they have changed the recipe recently? The borderline diabetic cat went back into good numbers as soon as we made the switch (he had been on that horrid purina U/R food which may as well be pure sugar it's so high in carbs), he also has hyperthyroid which he gets treated for, but lately he's always hungry and always drinking again, we have been back to the vet to have his thyroid monitored, but I wonder if the apparent change in the friskies is also affecting him? We are working on phasing out the friskies and going back to just FF anyway, because of the "pudding, not poo" thing; but if we can see the food seems different, wondering what they did to the ingredients to make it so?

    @lynn1 Merry Christmas.

    The PDF that you attached has different information for Fancy Feast Classic Pate than the cat food database from Dr. Lisa. I'm wondering which one is more recent?

    If you want to follow TR, don’t forget to get a second test in each PM cycle.

    Those aren’t “crazy high doses”, but high enough it’s time to get him tested for acromegaly and IAA. I don't think it’s the between the teo foods, as long as what you are feeding is low carb.
