My husband and I will be out celebrating the New Year tomorrow night. I won’t be able to monitor Molly. Not sure what time we’ll be home. What should I do? @MrWorfMen's Mom
Any advice would be great :)

I'd hold judgement on that till we see what the little one does. Hard to say at this point. You likely can shoot and just leave food out for her to eat in your absence. If she happens to be particularly low at pre-shot, then a decision has to be made based on how low she is. How about grabbing a test at +11 or so and posting then if there is a question about what to do for her shot?

You have more than one option for handling days like this:

    1. Give the shot as usual and leave her with plenty of food. It works for most cats, but it can be a little more worrying for you especially if she usually has someone home with her every day.
    2. Quick and easy - simply skip the shot. Most of us have to do that occasionally. No stress for you - it means you can simply go and enjoy your evening out without worrying about her numbers.
    3. You can give a half dose. Problem with that is that, sometimes with the depot insulins, a half dose doesn't make much of a difference until the following cycle so it doesn't guarantee you won't get a low number.
    4. Depending on schedule flexibility, you could give her dose whenever you get home and adjust her time back to her regular shot time gradually over the next few days.

Which of those is the best option for you really depends on your comfort level with shooting and leaving the house. I would agree though that getting a test around +11 so you can see at pre-shot what direction she's heading in would help. You can get both tests and still decide you're not comfortable shooting - for New Year's Eve when there may not be many people here and you want to have a night out, I don't think anyone would blame you for wanting to simply skip one dose out of the year to have an enjoyable night out. With our diabetics here, if I've worried about something like this in advance, they've had a habit of throwing me an unusually high number on the day so it turns into a complete non-issue...you might be lucky enough to have that happen and just be able to give her full dose too.

I should be about too - we are out just for an hour or so, all of next door, but not until pretty close to midnight.

I see 7.4 on the US sheet? Do I assume that is 7.4mmol or 133 US. Just checking.

I would wait until your regular pre-shot time and test again to see if she's on her way up or down. If she's heading up, then you could most likely give her a shot as long as you're comfortable leaving her. If she's heading down, then if it was my cat, I'd probably skip tonight just so you can enjoy your evening out. I will admit, I also assumed it was an international number and multiplied it up - if it wasn't, then that's a whole different issue.

I agree with April. It looks like you would be fine to shoot if she is still heading up at PMPS. You could always leave out a bit higher carb food. If you are going to worry about her the whole time you are out, skipping is fine too. Sometimes Mom needs a night off.

You input the 7.4 on the US sheet. Input it on the World sheet and it should work.:)

Yellow for a day or so, honestly isn't all that bad. If it means you can have a night off without worrying, I think it would be reasonable to skip if yellow is going to be as high as she gets.

Wait and see what she is at PMPS then make a decision. She'll get back to business soon enough if you skip. She may be higher at PMPS and your concern will be reduced.

Adrienne, you've got 7.7 on the world sheet instead of 7.4. Slight difference although not note worthy!:p

No worries. So, given that her previous reading was 7.7, she's actually coming down a little. Personally, I'd probably skip - enjoy your night out and get her back on track tomorrow. I've done that here and they usually get right back on track within a day or so. It isn't that you can't give a shot, but you don't need to spend all night worrying about her either.

I agree. I did it with Menace on occasion and she was back on track in no time.
