    Yesterday

    Good morning everyone!

Leo’s been hanging out on the beach and the shallow end of the lagoon. I hope he wanders out into the deeper end but not too close to the sharks!!

We woke up to an emergency government alert about an incident at the Pickering Nuclear power plant early this morning but the alert was cancelled a while later. Apparently, it was sent out in error. ???

Positive thoughts and prayers for Judy and her DH and our sweet little Boomer. :bighug:

Kel, how did you make out with the flood in your basement? I hope everything is ok. :(

Stay warm and safe everyone! Have a nice healthy day, kitties!

Wow on the error for the emergency alert. I'm glad it wasn't real. I hope Leo slides down and surfs today.

    Nice start Leo!

The facebook responses to the Emergency Alert made me laugh. And cringe. And I read at least 5 facebook posts that asked "Did anyone else get this alert".:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes: Nope it was sent out to just you!:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

We got some ice drizzle last night, enough to freeze my bird feeders which are now sitting inside my back door thawing out.

Too scary about the nuclear alert, thank goodness it was cancelled.

Leo is looking good on this lower dose, hope it continues.

Surf safely Leo and have a good day Sonia!

Ya, they rescinded the alert a while after but it makes you wonder how that can happen by mistake!??? Oh well, I'm sure they'll spin something to put it on the news! o_O

Too be honest, I have not been down to the basement to look today. I'm so sore from scooping and moving buckets of water; and there are other things pressing today. Will call our handy guy on Monday or Tuesday. It is likely to be a crack in the foundation under the basement stairs and may have to wait until spring. $$$$ At the very least, our handy guy can try to clear out the drainage pipe from the inside and take a load to the dump for sorting.
I last checked the basement before bed last night. The floor was slowly drying but there was still some water in the drainage area.
My backyard is a skating rink due to the rain and the high water levels on the river.
Glad you did not have any major problems.

Oh I’m so sorry, that’s horrible. :( I hope your guy can sort it out for now and it doesn’t get any worse. You might want to try to get your hands on an industrial dehumidifier to get rid of the dampness, Home Depot rents them out. Good luck, Kel!!! :bighug:

    Hi Kel,
What an awful mess! A few years ago, during a fast melt of tons of winter snow, we had ground water coming up into our basement for 2 months. Our sump pump was pumping out a gallon of water a minute for that whole time. But we still had to get the water over to where the pump was. Fortunately we have a Shop Vac and were able to fill it and then dump it into the hole in which the pump sat. Two months of this every-hour routine was lots of fun! We also ran 2 dehumidifiers all the time.

I hope your clean-up will go quickly and that your handyman can work some magic.

Yikes on the error with the emergency alert. How scary!

With the beginning of the year and last year being a different page , I admit , I didn’t go back to 2919 and look.

Here is my observation with just this year. Since Leo is a long term diabetic, I would not reduce the dose until he goes under 40. Looks like you reduced the PM cycle of 1/10 . You want to hold him him those greens to let his beta cells heal. You do test enough to hold him there.

If it were my kitty, I’d take him back to 5.51 dose and hold him there until he goes under 40. He’s so close ...

    JMHO.

Hi Bobbie! The alert was pretty scary!! Just that horrible sounding alarm so early in the morning after all the hype over the ice storm!! :nailbiting: I’m glad it was just a goof-up, somebody must have pressed “send” when they shouldn’t have or something!

Friday, 01/10 was the 12th cycle on 5.51 so I was not expecting a lime, it took me by surprise and then it took a lot of feeding over about 7 hours to keep him at around 50, he kept wanting to go lower and it was well past his usual nadir. I'm putting my “brave” pants on and giving it another try. I’ll increase his dose back to 5.50 tomorrow pm. Wish me luck!!

Thanks for your help as always, and give Bubba some cheek scritches from me! :bighug:

Thank you, Ella. Oh my, that must have been exhausting. :bighug: I'm still sore from scooping and dumping. The problem was compounded by old plumbing. Not wanting to risk the plumbing, we dumped most of the water outside. Our house is on a rise above the river, high enough up that we are affected by river flooding. I'm fairly certain that the problem is tree roots, especially those from a young catalpa tree that went over during a windstorm. If it wasn't the catalpa, then there are about 20 other trees that it could be. There is a humidifier running. I doubt our pre-1977 Filter Queen is up for such a task. Sorry to hijack through thread, Sonia.
