Zoot was diagnosed in May 2019 - has been a little rocky throughout, but never too high readings (his highest was when he was diagnosed) He was on 1.5 U Lantus, then suddenly we went from blues and yellows to low greens! Someone said it was like the switch was flipped. No gradual reduction. We went from 1.5 U in the AM to 1.0 in the PM to No does the next AM. Then all greens. Fingers crossed.

Go ZOOT!!! We are all cheering you on ( I see you are also posting in the Lantus forum during your OTJ trial.) Good idea, since this forum is very, very quiet. p.s. Keeping the insulin you use in your signature is still a good idea.
To be honest - the first two days were because his numbers said to stop and we are grandfathering in those two first days. It was last night we made it official. He is doing well today - snacking on his LC every few hours, and overall just relaxing. I will probably mainly post to Lantus since it's not a done deal yet! Thanks for the support!
Since he was on lantus insulin, the depot needs to drain first before you can really start counting the days for an OTJ trial. I know you said the 'moderators' over in the lantus forum said you could start an OTJ trial, but I did not find anything in your posts over there to say that. Lantus leaves a bit of a 'storage area' with remains of the insulin underneath the cat's skin. That is what we call the 'depot'. It can take time for that leftover insulin to still get into your cat. So although the numbers have been good, there may have been some insulin left behind under the skin that was still being 'used up' and helping to keep those BG readings low. That usually takes up to 6 cycles. So tomorrow the last of that insulin in the 'depot' should have been used up. That is why we usually ask people to start the OTJ trial later, counting the days AFTER the residual insulin has been used up. It can make a difference between a successful OTJ trial and not. If you were using one of the shorter acting insulins like Vetsulin/Caninsulin or Prozinc that don't have that 'storage area' effect, then you could have started counting the days for the OTJ trial earlier. So, can you link me to the post where the moderators said to start an OTJ trial? Posts like that are usually public.

Perfect! That was 'official' enough. Good to know that Sienne and Gabby let you know what the 'official' instructions were too. Thanks for the links to those posts. I missed that, even doing a search on Zoot's name, which is rather unique. When it is a "done deal", you can keep posting over in Lantus for a while too. I try to help mainly over in the Main Health Forum to help new people. Not enough time in the world to read through everything in the Lantus forum too. But, if I see something in another forum I check it out. Because sometimes new members post in the wrong forum, and may be "lost and forgotten". So we want to get them over in Feline Health where more people can see their posts. Thanks!

@Deb & Wink @Sienne and Gabby (GA) @Wendy&Neko QUick question - since he is no longer on insulin, can I adjust his meals so that they are 11 hours apart? Like 7 am and 6 PM? Do I still need to have a rigid 12 hour time frame? Thanks

I don't think it really matters when you feed Zoot. What I would suggest, though, is feeding multiple small meals. Generally, s couple of smaller servings is easier on a kitty's pancreas. Having said that, it looks like you were feeding Zoot twice a day. If that's what he's used to, it's fine. @Cinnie Cole - generally, for Lantus kitties, we encourage you to post on the Lantus forum while your cat is on an OTJ trial. None of the members of the forum are likely to monitor the Honeymoon board since this is where you can post once Zoot is finished with his trial. During the trial, the members of the Lantus group will be there to cheer Zoot on.
