    Happy caturday, everyone!

So, yoshi has been largely in the pinks and reds (two yellows) since the switch. I’ve woken up at a range of hours in the night in a panic to test, and I think I’ve gotten good enough (although not enough) data. I increased to 7u this am.

I went to petco yesterday with a list of low phosphorus and low carb foods, and they just had a few from werva. Actually like two (paw lickin chicken and chicken frick a zee). I also looked at tiki cat and wasn’t able to find what was on my list. It seems the chart I’m looking at doesn’t have a full list of what is available. I’ve been doing so much research since his acro diagnosis, and I just thought I’d make it easy and ask if anyone has tried low phosphorus/carb foods in these brands? So far, he loves werva.

I also don’t know if I should post on the acro forum or here. I know we have a certain convention for the subject line here, but my concern right now is more related to questions that come up as I soak this all in. I know the acro forum has less traffic, but it’s more specific. I need to write down all the mods names, all I know off hand is my beloved @Wendy&Neko. Please let me know if I need to post elsewhere.

    Thank you!

I've always posted here because it was more learning what lev would or would not do. And like you said more eyes here.

As far as food, that's the hard part. Ollie doesn't like shredded or minced foods. She licks more than eats them. So it pate only. It's hard finding food low in both. Also I have only 2 stores now where I can find single cans to try.

Tanya site lists food in phos order.

I started a page on my ss that has foods I've been trying and if Ollie likes it. I have listed what companies have told me. It's very very short as it's only foods I can buy right now. You are welcome to look and see if any work for you. I do not feed any one food exclusively. All these food Ollie and my other 3 get daily. I give different foods for each meals. Ollie was borderline ckd when I started. She isn't now, so I guess with foods and subq it's helped. Her new labs are also posted and you can see they are better than previous labs.

Most of the Tiki Cat was on the list except the dark series and aloha. ..you just have to look at the grill/ Luau names based on the ingredients. ( manana grill- ahi and prawns or Napuli Luau- salmon and chicken).. The dark series is low phos 210 or less- although I'm not sure about the Lamb and Chicken. Soulistic also has a chicken pate ( 1-3% carbs) which is lower- 154 phos I think. When in doubt, I check Chewy. They usually have a rep answer the nutrition questions and they have listed carb/ phos/ sodium content usually already under the frequently asked questions.

    https://www.chewy.com/app/product-question/1600821?productId=139634#ugc-target

I just started giving my guy the Tiki Chicken Mousse as a treat with his meds since its creamy like a pate. From the chewy data it was on par with other low phos levels. Tiki cat also has good customer service if you ever wanna call and check.

Questions on dose and food are better here. You will get more traffic here. Acro specific things you can post either place. I have a watch on posts in the acro/IAA/Cushings forum so will see anything there. Marge and Sienne are also mods, as well as a couple others who don’t post much.

    Good job on increasing.

I wonder if I should increase tonight? Still no yellows that I’m seeing. I don’t like levimir because I feel like he is high for ever after his shot, and it makes him feel yucky. With Lantus I could tell he felt better when it kicked in. I have to leave the house for 4-5 hours today, but I should be back in time to get a +9 or 10. I’m off tomo

    Hi Jen,
I hope Yoshi continues to like the food you have chosen. Tina almost exclusively eats the Paw Lickin' Chicken, even though I wish she'd like the Frick A Zee, since the carbs are even lower. I sure like that Weruva publishes all the information we are looking for. I have spent a lot of time looking for other LC, Low Phos alternatives, and always come back to the PLC as the mainstay.

Always hoping for the best for you and Yoshi:bighug:

Has anyone advised you to move faster than every six cycles? Typically on TR we increase every 6...I'm curious if your circumstances would be counter to that routine? Thanks

Here is the link to your previous post on this forum.

I had previously been suggesting faster increases for a couple reasons. One, you are playing dose catch up after switching to a lower dose on Levemir. Two, we know Yoshi has acromegaly (though we don't know about IAA :(), and he's currently solid pink. However, this is only cycle three on this dose, too early to increase yet as the depot is still building. And you have also seen yellow on a previous dose. I presume you are working tomorrow during the day? Maybe if you don't see anything below mid yellow by tomorrow night, increase by 0.5 then.

This is what cc is eating now for low carb and phosphorus. I buy it on on chewy

Weruva slide and serve pate foods Family Food (.97 phosphorus and 0 carb). Also Jeopurrdy Chicken (0.97 P 6.1 carb)

Weruva Steak Frites (0.57 phosphorus 7.5 carb although I take out any big pieces of potatoes to try to limit the carbs just a bit)

And weruva Fowl Ball chicken and turkey (0.89 phosphorus 0 carb).

Of course I just shot and I smell insulin on his fur. I’m contending with shorter needles and they just don’t work for us. I have to get new ones tomo

I was doing a number of FS too, but since Freckles got the Libre on, she has a shaved spot around the Libre. That's my target zone now and much easier to see and if I came through the other side - No FS lately!:) I wonder if she would like a semi-permanent Kojak look??

@Olive & Paula - I just saw the script for cabogline my vet sent. It says 75mcg capsule, one a day. I thought it was a liquid? Can I put it on his food? Does that sound like a good starting dose to you?

Are we the only cab people on the board?

Dr would have to order suspension in oil base. There are different stengths. Ollie's is 100mcg/ml. She started at 0.6 ml now at 0.84 ml. It depends on cats weight also.

I think your dose is ok, but I'm bad at math. Wendy would know. I'm trying to find my docs on it but they are on pc and I shut it down for the night.

Pamela & Amethyst is on it. Her concentration is higher than Ollie's. I think it's 125mcg/ml.

Is that another prescription? Everything you said was just in French. :) I am so bad at math as well. @Wendy&Neko, whenever you get a chance

The doctor would have to call in new script. I get it from Wedgewood. Bacon and Marshmallow flavor.

Can I ask where you got it from and how much it cost? If you don't want to say it's ok.. If it can be mixed in food and cheaper I might consider it.

Sure. I haven’t filled it yet. It’s a 45 day supply. I’m not sure how much shipping will be. I’m going to ask the vet if I need the suspension?

Shipping for me is $8. Are you sure it's a 45 day supply? I only see quantity 1. Make sure it's not just for 1 capsule. And no refills? If Yoshi is easy to pill, should be ok. I wonder how big capsule is. I find liquids meds easy for me. Just squirt in and it's down. No chance finding it later on the floor. Ollie is easy for liquid meds. Also if mixed in food, what if they don't eat it or all of it.

And with liquid, I can give more or less to a certain degree. If Ollie goes up in dose, Dr will have to call in a new order, but she is holding steady on this dose for months now.

Here is what the tech wrote. If I can mix anything in food, Yoshi will eat it. He’s not easy to pill... I’m going to try and call the pharmacy tomo and see if I can put it in food and what the difference is with the liquid.

Looks like you could probably call Wedgewood and ask for it to be compounded.

The pill might not taste good if it’s crushed or in general. So wrapping it in food or pill pockets might help if you can only get the pills.

don't be surprised if pharmacy won't tell you. They only give pricing to vet. Since they don't even have the script yet, they might not provide info. at first, I could never get info, but now if I get just the right person I can get some

ask if they make it in a gourmed chewable or some flavored option. They also have mini tabs for some meds.

Make sure about quantity. Your script only looks like 1 pill.

When they call you just make sure. If you don't here from them later today, give them a call to make sure they got it. It will nudge them a bit.

I read the script differently. On it: quantity #: 1pm
    Size: 42 cap
Normally that is the size of capsule to use, 42. I don't know if they come in that size, so it might just be how it's written.

I called and it was 42 capsules 1 x per day. She said I shouldn't pour it in food and manipulate the capsule. I called in to my vet to change to a liquid form. She said the pills were like tiny benadryl, but I can imagine him spitting them up or gagging. Also, she said you could put the liquid in the food.

That's good. Make sure its oil based, it has longer shelf life. Takes a lot of shaking though. Your arm will get a workout.

You are suppose to avoid coming in contact with it, so that's probably why not to open capsule.
