Do I just keep applying to gums? How long of a time before I should see effect?

Adding a few drops of honey to low carb food is fine. Retest in 15 - 20 min.

And while you are waiting to test again, maybe create a 2020 tab and put the last week or two of data in there. Your meter should still have the numbers.

I never rubbed honey on Gabby's gums. If your cat will eat, then HC food or adding syrup to food works just fine.

Ok. He's eating. He was not picking his head up. I rubbed honey on his gums twice and gave food with honey.

he finally just picked his head up to eat. Now he’s up on his feet and walking but wobbling. I made him lay back down

    Brian -

Please respond to the questions - how long has it been since you gave Tyler his insulin?

It would be exceptionally helpful, as Wendy suggested, if you had your spreadsheet filled in.

It would also be good to know if Tyler was having symptoms of hypoglycemia. We're doing our best to help but we need the full picture of what's going on.

I’m just monitoring him. Sorry for delays. This has never happened.
He was given his last shot three hours ago.

He’s been at a stalemate so long and I got so lax, I haven’t been recording his numbers. Very bad cat dad.

he hasn’t been below 100 that I’ve recorded in quite a while

If you've been testing at all, the meter should have all the data in it's memory for the last couple weeks.

If he dropped that quickly by +3, it will likely be a busy night of testing. Where are Tyler's numbers now?

Please understand, in all likelihood, Wendy and Iand probably a number of others will be watching to make sure Tyler and you are OK. We don't just throw out some instructions and disappear. We've got your back.

That also means we need to know what you know. Please get some of the data from your meter and add it to your spreadsheet. At the bare minimum, please keep. updating your subject like or this thread with your latest test data.

We went from max cat, which is now discontinued, back to fancy feast chunky chicken since he always liked that one. Totally have been bad about not keeping records. He still gets less than half a unit per dose twice daily at 6am & 6pm.

I have been giving him about a tablespoon of kibble twice daily and have recently went to once per day.

With the food change, missing those carbs, and me not monitoring him like I should had just put him in danger.

I know I’ve been gone from here and not checking in. He’s just clung to the same dose for so long without any real change except when I tried going otj a few times over the last few years on the Max Cat foods. He ends up back on that small dose after a few months. He’d just start climbing back into high numbers until i started him back up.

FYI - do not become complacent. Since I have no idea where Tyler's nadir is, I suspect that your kitty is not yet past nadir. Numbers can wobble around. Once the HC wears off, Tylers numbers can drop again. Please keep testing and bumping up the numbers as necessary.

Just in case there are any other things that have fallen off the radar, here's the info on what you need to have in your hypo toolbox. Knowing where the closest emergency vet is, having a stockpile of strips and high carb food or syrup, printing out the instructions for managing low numbers, etc. should be something we all have in a handy place.

I have gotten complacent since he’s been at such a stalemate. He still eats from a timed feeder once per hour from 6-10am/pm and was getting the kibble’s at 6:30.

he just ate again after that test of 57. I will check him again soon. I took nighttime cold meds right before all this and its kicking in. Im on the couch with a timer set to check him again. Will check back in
