    http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/alice-2-16-hypo-last-night-shes-hiding-out-today.225757/

We took a reduction after a hypo, but I have been sick every darn morning, today since before the sun came up, vomiting. Nauseous all day and eventually sick again. I quit food.

Is there any way to do a reduced dose for AM closer to +13/14....? That or I need help figuring out a schedule. I’m struggling to get her AM done at an appropriate +12 no matter what. This is a newer issue—we were like clockwork for so long.

I missed her morning shot today and just tested and she’s running over 500 so I gave her shot at +20....

    I am so rundown.

She’s also refusing her ziwipeak so frequently and wasting so much of it I can’t afford to waste, because she wants what everyone else is having. At least it’s all low carb. I finally end up giving up because she does have DKA history and she does need to eat.
Any food recommendations with better quality than friskies but not exorbitantly expensive? Maybe I can find something everyone will eat equally....

She finished her last AB pill today at least, the vet in the state that didn’t work out had recommended a recheck to be sure infection is gone. Alice had crystals years ago (long before FD and cancer), but she was negative for ketones and crystals when this UTI was checked at the beginning of the month. Is it reasonable to make a follow up with our regular old vet then to check her to be sure infection has cleared? She’s drinking and urinating fine as far as I have witnessed, but of course she had a persistent UTI years ago....

I’m ready to get more done but then illness and life chaos....!

    I hope all are well.

Are you feeding any particular protein? Nature's Variety has some lamb, venison, duck and rabbit that are low carb and less pricey than Ziwipeak. I think Koha has some too, though my girl doesn't like the green lipped mussels they include. You could also make your own food with a premix, which I found cheaper than the more expensive canned. At one point I was feeding buffalo and elk.

You could do a +12.5 AM safely. Any later than that is dicey unless her numbers are really high.

It would be nice to know for sure that the infection has gone.

Thank you, I will check these other brands! I am currently doing lamb with the ziwipeak because venison is more expensive. I prefer to avoid feeding rabbit, my bunny is one of my babies too. Would duck not also be difficult for a cat that has had issues with chicken and turkey?

The civvies are eating friskies fishy pates right now. Anytime she sneaks out for some of theirs she has worse fecal score and more stink.... but nothing as bad as the friskies chicken and liver!!!

The thing is that she wants what everyone else has because now she knows. I had to stay in that one motel room with everyone for 4-5 days and she accepted her ziwipeak much more easily before she got to really see what everyone else was getting.

I am so lost as to how to afford this level of food! We are doing better at getting her AM shots in, even though the schedule is off a bit sometimes.

Oh yes and when I tried to budget out what the cost of a novel protein and a premix would work out to be the numbers didn’t seem to be any cheaper!! How do you find your meat? I’ve been vegetarian longer than I’ve been an adult. Haha. Thanks for your response. :)

Couple sources for meats for me. One, I have an exotic meats butcher 5 minutes away. Second, a pet store specializing in raw food. Some raw pet food manufacturers also provide plain (frozen) meat for people who want to make up their own. That’s where I got the stranger ones. Of course ostrich and elk cost more too! Do you have any farms near you that could provide cheap lamb? Goat is another option that might be easily available, ie. cheaper. Not available to me, but there is a source called Hare Today (I think) in the US that delivers frozen, and more than rabbit. I think Dr. Lisa’s page on making your own food lists some sources.

I use the same premix (FoodFurLife) as Wendy. I buy ground lamb or pork at the grocery store since Gizmo can't tolerate chicken or turkey and my vet indicated I shouldn't feed duck because the proteins are too similar to other poultry. Is Alice sensitive to beef? If not, buying a bunch when it (or any other meat) is on sale will help with costs. I freeze the raw food in ice cube trays so there's no issue with anything spoiling.

If you are having problems with shot time, change your time! Just remember that Daylight Savings Time is next weekend.
